Occasionally I come across things that people do that make my mind boggle and scream "WHY??" This is one of them:

Wow. That one guy doing the pull-ups was wearing no parachute, or my eyes were mistaken. Yep. As crazy as it is, I'm glad somebody is doing it.

No as far as I could tell they had no safety gear at all! I just kept thinking what would happen if one hand slipped...

I dont think it's as much of a death wish as it is an addiction to the incredible buzz of risking your life. Once you're used to doing dangerous sports anything less just seems pale in comparison.
