Literature Mapping on gnooks

Post by Farm Ur-Ted »

I came across this today, and thought it was pretty cool. I guess it uses a similar algorithm to the suggestions you'll get on amazon or netflix for books/movies you might like based on previous purchases. If you plug in someone like Tad Williams, then the two closest authors that pop up are Martin and Hobb, which is probably right. I've checked out the music mapping, and it's really amazing. I was actually more impressed with it than the author mapping.

Wow, that's pretty cool, although I agree some seem a bit...removed. Suppose it depends on the criteria they assign authors.

I certainly would't really equate Fritz Lieber with Robert Heinlein for example. Not readily anyway.

(Or Hesse, King & Umberto Eco with Terry Pratchett. )

(And I'd have SRD and Jordan on the same page at least...epic fantasy...)

I'd just like to know who it was that put in "Moorkock".

I think it's funny that there's a Stephen R. Donaldson, a Stephen R Donaldson and a Donaldson. And they don't always line right up. And I haven't read Zindell yet (but will soon), but according to the people here, he's very similar to SRD, and on the map, he's right next to him.

There are weird things in there to be sure, but I think it's pretty cool.

Oh great. When you read Zindell, check out The Hangar, the Watch's sister site.
