Ooh. . that sounds good, Damelon! :D

I had baked potato soup, a Caesar salad, croissants drizzled with honey butter and a rum/cream of coconut/orange juice drink called a Painkiller. My two good friends took me out and we all had drinks with our dinner. It was exactly what I needed after my day today. :D

Tonight and tomorrow I will be preparing the two formal seder festive meals for Passover. They are pretty much the same ceremony two days in a row. So the menu will consist of the following, with only the entree changing.

Ritual foods...

matzah
horseradish
parsley in salt water
charoses (chopped apples, nuts, and wine)

The Festive meal

Appetizers
hard boiled egg in salt water
gefilte fish with horseradish
chopped chicken livers

matzah ball soup

Festive Meal

braised in kosher for Passover Coca-cola beef brisket or
braised beef short ribs (Wolfgang Puck's recipe)
asparagus in balsamic browned butter
garlic mashed potatoes
apple stuffed acorn squash
home made matzah meal rolls
tsimmis (vegetable stew of carrots and prunes with seasonings of cinnamon and mace and flavored with concord grape wine)

Dessert

strawberry soup
matzah caramel crunch

Since we traveled five hours yesterday to get here, I have shopping and cooking yet to do.

Fun, fun, fun!!!

Being Passover, most processed foods are out. While shopping today, I came across ribeye minute steaks for $3.99/lb. So, tonight's dinner is:

ribeye steak
home made garlic mashed potatoes
and oven baked cabbage

mmm...

Sounds very tasty!

Tonight was nuked chicken breast with salsa, asparagus, and brown rice. Kind of a weird combination, I guess...

Fish, again. It's one of the only kinds of protein I can have. :P Pascha is Sunday, so I am excited. I think I will have a HUGE cheeseburger to celebrate the end of Lent.

But until then, it's fish or vegetarian stuff.

Question, O Galley Goddess Person:

On the box, they spell it "matzoh" or just "matzo" (I think -- don't quote me on that last one). Is the variation due to the fact that we're "translating" the spelling from Hebrew?

Thank you.... (Still haven't bought my annual box of crackers -- gotta do that soon!)

*nodding*

Precisely. The variation is due to the transliteration of the Hebrew sounds. And some companies do spell it matzah.

For instance, the holiday of Hannukah. The "H" at the beginning of the word is gutteral. For years it was spelled either Hanukkah or Chanukkah (and multiple variations within that). But then it was mispronounced with either an aspirated "H" like in "have" or a soft "CH" like in "change." So, in the last five years or so, the underlined "H" has come into use. But you will still see the other two spellings. And none of them change the Hebrew word itself.
