MUD

Post by balon! »

Someone with some skill and spare time should whip up a TC MUD.

I would play it loyally.

I remember someone posting a couple of years back about working on one. Don't remember hearing anything in a long time though. Maybe it was in Gen Dis, though the thread is probably long gone.

Yeah, I remember that too. I think it was in the Covenant 1st and 2nd Chronicles thread though, if I remember correctly.

Entirely correct, as it turns out.

I could look if anyone is interested...

A MUD is a multi-user dungeon. There used to be a MUD based on The Land. It was based in Norway, I think. The URL ended with a .no in any case.

Anyway, for those who MUD, it was unique in that it was entirely based on the Land, and you could injure body parts, not just take 'damage'.

Does anyone know what happened to this MUD? If anyone knows, I have admined a few MUDs and built a few, and I would be very interested in running or helping run such a project.

Does anyone out there have any information regarding the Land MUD?

I am going to try to work on creating a Land MUD of my own. I would like to hear from those who are interested in playing it. I cannot give a timeframe for anything, but I can definitely give status updates if people are interested in playing.

well, so far, I wrote the help files for the immortals. Getting ready to start building rooms. If anyone is interested in helping design, let me know. I will put it on the web soon if I have help. If I do not have any help, there is no need to put it online at this particular juncture.

If you are interested in helping build, OLC is preferred, but not required. (OLC is online creation experience).

You have to be a stickler for spell checks and proper grammer and you have to like quoting all the books. All descriptions will be based on SDR's writings except where those are insufficient.

I plan on making the Land be mostly from the 1st and 2nd Chrons, but might add more when the future gets here.

I've played one or two MUDs, so I'd be tentatively interested in playing. I know bugger all about making them though, so I can't help with that.

Sorry for the long delay, I was offsite for a bit.

I have a little previous play experience, but no building or designing. I have a little bit of free time, depending on whether not not what I imagine making this game would be like, compared to how it would actually work.

I am willing to help, depending on time constraints, so PM me you're email and we'll talk!

I would LOVE a TC Mud.

I got someone who will host it for me. So, now I have to port the software to Linux. It is in windows now, but it should not be too bad. I will upload it to his server.

For those who know MUDding OR want to learn, as soon as I get the MUD online, I will get your access. Right now, it has VERY little TC. But, when I get time/buildign volunteers/slaves, I think we can make it go fast.

Today, I built Kevin's Watch. I think after the learning school that you start with, you should enter the Land at the end of Kevin's Watch.

For those who have MUDded, I will speak about my ideas:

1.) There is no "magic" teleporting to places. Walking or Ranyhyn or regular horses.

2.) All the MUD will be mappable, based on Karen Wynn Fonstad's Atlas.

3.) The magical items are VERY limited.

4.) I am not building a hack 'n slash R US type MUD.

Anything anyone wants to add, let me know.

I have but one question....are you wearing an ochre robe?

If I find time, I would enjoy playing.

How is this coming along? I'm a programmer myself, and, while I don't have much spare time to invest in coding or building, I am intrigued none the less....

are you using a pre-made software package, or developing your own code from scratch?

Today's update

Post by baabng »

Well, sorry for the delays, but stupid LIFE gets in the way! The entire job/making money to pay rent thing. However,

1.) I am writing this for a SMAUG based MUD because that is what I am used to building.

2.) Have done much OLC building in Circle, but I have the smaug code.

3.) Anyone interested, email me, or PM me and I will be sure to create your character to help build.

4.) Building is mainly through OLC (OnLine Creation). It is basically just a menu driven system to build rooms with numbers and such.

5.) The difficult programming, I will have to find someone who can code better than I can in C++, because I want things like chopping off hands and other body parts (MUCH DnD stuff is the generic "hitpoints".

6.) Still working on porting to UNIX to get it uploaded.

Any questions, just email or pm me.
