I'm in a good mood despite a communication breakdown at work which has caused me much frustration.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

I feel very lackadaisical.

Sorus -- I take it that's a bad thing...
Rob -- best wishes and my hopes for a speedy recovery.
Menolly -- I had noticed that you didn't seem to be around as much as usual.... Hope you get your computer issues cleared up soon.
As for me...well...I took the day off today. Took Magickmaker to get her passport photos taken and then to the post office to turn in the app. (She was under 16 for her last passport so we couldn't use the mail-in option.) Stood around at CVS for about two hours, first waiting to get her picture taken, then waiting for the stuff to print out -- but the printer was apparently broken, arrgh, so we drove over to Costco and were in & out in, like, 15 minutes. Then the 30-min. or so wait at the p.o. Passport processing fees have gone up to $75, and the p.o. charges another $25 handling fee. Ouch.
Anyway, other than that, it's been a relaxing day. Waiting now for Batty and her girlfriend to arrive -- they're stopping here tonight on their way to an anime convention in Baltimore this weekend. Looking forward to seeing them!

Because it's a big corporation and I have been gone for over 90 days and that's the policy... so yes, I have lost all my seniority/vacation, etc.Lucimay wrote:

Haven't wanted to get into what's going on at work, suffice to say it just keeps getting worse... ended up at the hospital over it last week... and today... was told today that I needed to 'quit immediately and take a job at Starbucks'. Which was kind of funny, because that's basically where I was headed anyway, since my attempts to 'move up' have so far been futile.
And since I am still short a reference for Starbucks, I am trying Borders again... if it doesn't work out I may try Starbucks anyway... they must hire people who can't come up with three freaking professional references. They must hire people who don't have ANY professional references.

I can't believe that people would require three references if you have eight freaking years at ONE place. That should say loads about the type of employee you would be. Loyal for one. I for one look carefully at longevity at places when I do my hiring. I don't WANT to have to train someone up only to have them turn around and go somewhere else. I think longevity over quantity is much preferable to me as a potential employer. What the hell is wrong with corporations out there?????
I had another uncomfortable bus ride home. This crazy old french woman was sitting next to me and just started talking to me and talking to me and talking to me. She started out by telling me how much she loves to travel and about all the places she's been and then goes on to say that she would move away from San Francisco but she's too old to start over now but she really doesn't like the people here anymore. She likes people like me who look German and Irish or English, people who are clean. Meanwhile we are pretty much the only white people on the bus in sight except for the filthy junkie sitting two seats down. I made eye contact with the black teenagers standing directly in front of us listening to her and made an "I don't know her and she's crazy" face and they smiled and understood. I just kept trying to ignore her and read my book but she kept grabbing my arm so I would look at her when she spoke to me. Unfortunately I was pretty trapped since the bus was crowded and there was nowhere to move to without making a fuss.

Sorus, Ali's post about going to Costco had me thinking. (perhaps a dangerous thing) If there's a Costco nearby, go and apply there. They are union, pay good wages and have good benefits. If I had to work in retail, that would be the first place I would apply to.

Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a good carpenter to build one.

Costco, eh? There's one in the city... lousy commute for me, but nothing like what I'm doing now. I'll look into it - thanks!
[edit] Ah, nice. They use Unicru - I will apply tomorrow.

They eat their children because there will always be more. Because the people who make those decisions are not on the front lines and have no idea of how stores actually run.Cameraman Jenn wrote:What the hell is wrong with corporations out there?????

Sorry about all the job hassles you're having, Sorus. I've got my fingers and toes crossed that something comes your way that works for you.

...awhhhh...I've just had one of those "remember when" moments: thinking about the US and merlot...and I kept meaning to say to you Danlo "those are HUGE bottles of wine!" To the best of my knowledge, you can't get them in Oz. Anyway, hope you had a glass for me sittin' out under the Albuquerque sky!

I miss my imaginary friends, and I'm sad as the last family meetup lead to more unhappiness than joy, which was the roadtrip I took this last weekend. We really do remain in the roles we were brought up to be in, don't we? The thing is, I've finally realized something about myself at 39 years of age that I'm just now realizing is because I've always remained in this role of the youngest, and am starting to realize has been affecting me socially most of my life. I wish I hadn't made this realization, but now I can't unring this bell. But it definitely caused tension with me and the family this weekend. Bluh.

Life is a waste of time
Time is a waste of life
So get wasted all of the time
And you'll have the time of your life

Try a venti triple-shot cappucino. Maybe that'll get you there.
