What Are You?

Post by balon! »

I was sitting here, eating a delicious roastbeef sandiwch, when a seemingly harmless parable merrily skipped it's way into my head. You are what you eat. I looked at myself, and thought "there are worse fates than a roastbeef sandwich," smiled, and returned to my sandwich.

But when my mind has nothing to do, it tends to stray from my leash, and wander around. Sometimes it's spare memories, sometimes plans for the rest of the day. For some reason, a stray particle of thought reversed my lightfooted saying. It now read, You eat what you are.

I paused from my scrumptious sandwich as I read it over and over in my head. If I am what I eat, and I eat what I am.... then what am I? what am I?

I'm not sure I can answer. I'm not my finger. ( I think) And I'm not my brain, because when I sleep I am still me. (aren't I?) and when I die, I doubt that I suddenly cease to exist (right?)

If you eat what you are, then what are you?

What am I?

You're an aggregation of all your experiences and thoughts. You're a sub-microscopic random speck in the unimaginable vastness of the external universe. You're the centre of the subjectively equally as vast internal universe that expands outward from your head. You're the only thing that there is. You're everything. You're nothing. You're a unique individual. You're just like everybody else. You're the title role. You're the walk-on extra without any lines. You're you. It all depends on where you're looking from.

Help? :D

If you eat what you are, then what are you?
A cannibal?

If you are what you eat, then I'm about to be a bacon sandwich.

Can you eat me? NO! After my transformation, I will eat myself.

Hmmm... If we go by Balon's logic and I am what I ate and what I ate is what I am then I am an extremely rare filet mignon, lumpy russett garlic mashed potatos with mushroom gravy and broccoli.

I could be worse....

I am homebrewed beer: an intentional self-awareness rearrangement conducted through the symphony of art, zymurgy, and agriculture. I'm intentionally an altered state through the magic of earth bounty and mental acuity. Earth and sky and the consciousness between them.

Hmmmmm....What if I dump the yogurt in my coffee, then tear the head off a pigeon?

Nevermind, that'd just make me sociopathic.

I had a pulled pork sammich for lunch, but that doesn't sound like it's helping my case any.

I like Coleslaw!!..A couple of pounds a week I eat of that stuff..I acquired a taste for cabbage, not the boiled tho,,when stationed in Korea. Raw shredded cabbage witha lite dressing,,good Stuff! So Im a cabbage head. Now in Aridzonee, a cabbage head would be someone from the Emerald Isle and i aint', but i do enjoy a pint of Guiness every now and then. They don't grow any cabbage in the desert here. Thats over in El Centro and north. They do grow oranges tho here in phoenix..hhhmm..irish and citrus both orange heads...well okay,, maybe I am a cabbage head.
