Is there a discussion group for how appaling and terrible the Dune movie (with Sting) was and how they have to make a good one??? That's about the worst movie I've ever seen, and I've seen movies with Brendan Frasier and Bette Midler.

Has anyone read PAUL OF DUNE yet? Amazon sent me an alert email about it and a new Orson Scott Card (which turned out to be a novella priced like a full novel). I'm interested in "Yes, I've read it and this is what I thought," but not looking for "Haven't read it -- too disgusted by the idea."

I've only read the first book which is my ATF '.'
My dad first introduced me when I was about fifteen. He said the rest of the series wasn't as good as the masterpiece and to stick with just this one. Seeing as Berg is going to do a remake, and from the comments of the studio, one can infer that if succesful, the rest will follow.

What is considered to be the actual series (not including his son's stories)? Is it a complete whole, a la did the last book finish the series in a solid way?

Is the rest of the series near par with the first work?

Does anyone know/think that Lawrence of Arabia influenced Herbert's writing of Dune, seeing that it came out just a couple years earlier, maybe when he was writing Dune?

Is Berg going to pull it off or wreck it...again?

Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, Chapter House Dune.

And no, the last book has a relatively open ending in a lot of ways. Since the whole series covers over 5,000 years, I can live with that.

Is the rest of the series near par with the first work?

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Messiah and Children. Messiah especially may be my least favourite. But I think it really picks up in God Emperor...aside from the first book, that's my favourite. But the last three are best if you read them consecutively.

No idea on either count...the remake...meh...I don't know if it's possible to do the book the justice it deserves on film.

Paul is a Mentat and Bene Gesserit, the Kwisatz (or so we think at the end of the first book). He now has the powers that the Guild evolved have concerning space folding, through the use of spice and drinking the Water of Life, which are Worm shit and piss, right? So, what then? Despite the Bene breeding plans, we have two ways to the same place, and all dependent on Worms.

How come? To what end? What is the purpose of the Haderach?

No, it's the fluid excreted when a worm is drowned, and converted from poison to hallucinogenic substance inside the body of a Fremen Reverend Mother.

And it's not empty. Just quiet and slow-paced.
