Dan Brown books

Post by Endymion9 »

Saw a thread on Da Vinci but wanted to talk about more than just that one.

I've listened to four of his as audiobooks and Da Vinci was the weakest to me. Although I did enjoy it. The movie was just fair. I'd give the book three out of five stars and the movie only two stars.

For a book that is similar but done better I like Angels and Demons. A lot of the same scenes, almost like he copied them for Da Vinci later, but overall a much stronger storyline.

My least favorite has been Deception Point. Seemed like 80% of the story was
Spoiler
the chase/running
.

My favorite has been Digital Fortress. Excellent story related to code breaking using computers. Kept me on the edge of my seat.

Are there other books he's written (I'm not sure) and that anyone would recommend?

I've read angels and demons which I thought was very good, especially the way it mixed religion with science. After that I read the Da Vinci Code but I didn't like it at all and kinda went off his stuff and haven't read any more of his works since.

If you want an intelligent conspiracy novel written by a true giant vof contempory literature - a novel that's mixing fact with fiction, theology, philosophy, history and politics you need to check out Umberto Eco's Foucault’s Pendulum. A true masterpiece Brown could have never achieved - in fact it is so much better that it is not only in a league of its own - there are universes between Brown and Eco.

I've wanted to read that for a while. Thanks for jogging my memory!

Angels and Demons was better than Da Vinci Code. I hear they're making a movie of this, too?

You haven't read that? I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Check out In the Name of the Rose by the same author too...easier reading than FP, but still very enjoyable.

I was lost within two pages of FP. Haven't tried picking it up again in a couple years. At the moment, I don't remember why it confused me so much, but it was incomprehensible.

Angels and Demons is much better than the Davinci Code.
