12 Monkeys undoubtedly deserves a 12. DUH. Can't you guys count?
Anyway, even though I will sound like a snob and everyone will hate me, I highly recommend the "film" which 12 Monkeys was based off of, La Jetee (french). It's just a bunch of narrated stills. I watched it a year or two before I saw Monkeys and while I do appreciate some of the things the american port tries to do, I think the original is substantially better.
Instead of giving more opinions to try and convince you to watch it (and possibly convince you not to instead), I will simply tell you to watch the film if you are interested as it's only 28 minutes long. It's back from 1962 and is consequently available on youtube:

I personally think it is pretty excellent.

Just gonna parse this out cuz. Even though I just said 12 Monkeys < La Jetee, I will say the addition of Pitt's character (and his dad, his crew, and the other characters added with him) was probably the biggest plot departure from the original, and probably the most successful of the changes from the original.Oh I disagree. Pitt played the incredulous young rookie perfectly well. This film was made after Legends of the Fall, and I'd say he was perfectly in stride for that movie.
