Spring ahead...

Post by Menolly »

Well, the clock in my toolbar just jumped from 1:59 to 3:00 am.
Best get moving on resetting the other clocks.
All three of them. ;)

Which brings up the fact that I don't use wall clocks. I only have to adjust my wristwatch. Okay, and the clock on the microwave, which is the most awfully inaccurate thing anyway.

8O You were up, and on the Watch, at 2am?

I have, um, a few more than three clocks at home. I meant to set them all forward on Friday before we left for Denver, but we left so freakin' early that it didn't happen. So now I've got to deal with resetting them when I get home tomorrow. Bleah. It's not enough to deal with time zone changes, but I've gotta dink with the clocks when I get back, too...

Batty and Shara_Lunison had a 6:15am flight out this morning, so we all had to get up at 4am so I could drive them to the airport. The alarm on the motel room's clock seemed to be malfunctioning so I unplugged it a couple of nights ago; we set the alarms on our phones and hoped they would reset automatically. Luckily they did. I suppose we could've asked for a wake-up call, but we decided to live dangerously....

Yeah...

Hyperception has been working 24 hours on Saturdays, and after 21 years of sleeping in the same bed together, I just don't like being alone in the house at night. Oh sure, Beorn's here...
...but it's not the same.
So, I'm generally up and surfing Saturday nights until my eyes can't stay open anymore.

When do you return to work, ali?

Yeah...
I probably would have requested a wake-up call.
But I haven't learned to rely on my cell in such a way yet.

How did Batty like the grad school in Denver?

She liked it. :) We're all keeping our fingers crossed that they also liked *her*.... It's a two-year program and all the classes are in the evenings. So she could work at least part-time and go to school, which is pretty cool.

I use my cell phone's alarm as a backup to my regular alarm clock, in case the power goes out overnight.

Flying home tomorrow. Back at work Tuesday.

Cag and Carla say hi. We went out to dinner last night and then did karaoke at their place afterward. Just like old times. :)

Yay!!
How is Carla doing?

Should we ever do karaoke at a 'fest again, I've received a request it be videoed and uploaded to youtube or some such. I'll refrain I think, unless my diminished half an octave range is "in voice" then, but wouldn't mind operating the camcorder for such a purpose. ;)

It just occurred to me that we used to wait until the first week of April to reset our clocks. But now Canada springs ahead in synchrony with the US as a way to further integrate commerce between the two countries, if I have my facts right.

The US changed from starting on the first Sunday in April to the second Sunday in March in 2007. The end dates changed as well, from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November. It was done by an act of Congress in 2005, and Congress retaines the right to go back to the former dates, once a study on energy conservation regarding extending the dates was accomplished.

I don't know the reasoning for Canada following suit, but your explanation makes sense, mm.

The whole bloody thing's ridiculous, if you ask me. Losing an hour in the spring, gaining it back in the fall -- it's not like that hour *goes* anywhere. Just a nuisance. Bleah. </rant>

A karaoke video?? Who asked for a video? Clearly I need to speak to this person....

I actually LIKE daylight saving in Australia! We're heading toward autumn now and I'm going to miss the lovely long sunny evenings...I hate winter (unless I"m going snowboarding, but as it doesn't SNOW in West Oz...yeah, I hate winter!)

Yeah, it's like the government just likes to screw with our sleep patterns. If I ever get to be president, DST will be the first thing to go.

In that case, I'm voting for you in the next election, whether or not I agree with you on anything else.

DAMMIT! I HATE DAYLIGHT SAVING'S TIME! :soapbox:
On Sunday my alarm clock didn't set itself, so I set it manually. This morning, I woke up thinking I was running late, so I hurried in a panic. I hate waking up in a panic. Then I saw my cell phone and the hallway clock and realized that my alarm clock had SET ITSELF TWO DAYS LATE! GRRR. Now I have to wait an hour until everything is back to when it needs to be, and I'm hungry (breakfast is at set times here). And it's pouring rain, and I need to walk one and a half miles in that rain in nice clothes to my clinical site, where I won't even get to teach because the teacher I'm supposed to be supervised by is out of town at a funeral. Funeral, btw, is an anagram of "real fun". Which is what this morning is not. And it's all (ok, fine, just mostly) DST's fault. :hithead:

We don't use DST here. But it's winter ahead for me...and I'm not looking forward to it at all.

Lost my cell phone yesterday. I blame DST. Anyway, if you try to call me on the cell, you won't get me, or anyone else, as I suspended service to it in case it was stolen/found by someone unethical.

Maybe I mailed the phone to the prince of Nigeria in my sleep, knowing he'd sent me 30 in return once he freed his loyal subjects.
