I caught some of A Bridge Too Far on TV years ago but remember it as being dull. Maybe I need the clarity of DVD to appreciate the movie. The real life event is certainly compelling and very tragic. This is a succinct summary of the failed assault at Arnhem, for those (like me) who need a refresher: www.historylearningsite.co.uk/arnhem.htmRigel wrote: A great movie about a terrible mistake. While it's hard to fault Montgomery for taking a risk (especially when our modern military leadership has been widely criticized for being too risk-averse), there were just too many logistical problems with what he was trying to accomplish here.
Aside from the logistical problems, it appears they underestimated the strength of the enemy. Funny how that always happens.
