I know it is sacrilege, dlb, but give me some crispy hash browns instead of the biscuits with the gravy, and I'll be right alongside y'all. That is, if I can swing the next major elohimfest in Albuquerque (hoping Cj and Sea make it for that one).rdhopeca wrote:Unless something comes up I am going to the next E'Fest. Say not "instead"...say rather "with"...crispy hash browns with the biscuits with the gravy....Menolly wrote:I know it is sacrilege, dlb, but give me some crispy hash browns instead of the biscuits with the gravy, and I'll be right alongside y'all. ...but it's not.
I will have the biscuits with the crispy hash browns and gravy though (high carb rush!!!), with fresh churned butter and some wildflower honey, thankyouverymuch, sir.

Have what makes you happy, as long as you bring your knife and fork!Menolly wrote:I would, if that is what I meant.rdhopeca wrote:Say not "instead"...say rather "with"...crispy hash browns with the biscuits with the gravy....Menolly wrote: I know it is sacrilege, dlb, but give me some crispy hash browns instead of the biscuits with the gravy, and I'll be right alongside y'all. I haven't had 'biscuits' with sausage gravy, but I did sample some of Danlo's biscuits and some form of alleged gravy at the place opposite the bagel shop at Lakewood.
Even if I overlook the biscuit issue (a biscuit isn't a cookie either; cookies are sweet, while biscuits are frequently quite savoury), I don't understand eating something that's essentially a collapsed pie for breakfast.

Biscuits and gravy is a very occasional thing for me. Good, but to me a little heavy.
When I was a kid, mom would sometimes make S.O.S. I haven't had that in years but it was good.
Today, for me, breakfast is a slice of toast with peanut butter and a cup of coffee, but on weekends I'll have a couple of over easy or scrambled eggs with two or three slices of bacon or sausage.

Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a good carpenter to build one.

Lorin, I've found Weetabix here in the US. Think Wheaties, compressed into lozenge-shaped biscuits (there's that word again!) about a half-inch thick and 1.5 inches x 2.5 inches long. Two of 'em makes a serving.
CovJr, proper buttermilk biscuits are *not* like pie crust. They are fluffy inside. What were they serving at that greasy spoon anyhow? (Menolly, I can get onboard with biscuits & honey, too.)
Damelon, your reference to SOS made me laugh. My mom used to serve it for dinner sometimes.
