Exactly. Whatever you do, don't make the mistake I made last year and jump into the first thing that comes your way. You needed a change. Find something you'll love (or at least like) doing.

Sorry to hear that, Lucimay. I certainly hope it turns out for the best in the end. Good luck!

sorry to hear that, Lucimay. not an easy thing in this economy.

These two responses feel really incongruent. Although I want to be free I want freedom on my terms. So I wish you both a whole lot of luck in your voluntary and involuntary freedom.

It's all gonna work out for the best, I swear.

I'm on vacation this week, but it kind of doesn't feel like it. I made the mistake of telling certain people (i.e., one of my attorneys -- the one who's back in India) that I'd be checking the Blackberry. I've spent part of every day this week answering work-related e-mails -- not to mention the two hours on Sunday on the phone, changing travel plans for said attorney in India and his traveling buddies (whose secretaries *don't* have Blackberries). Good news: I earned two hours of OT. Bad news: Magickmaker is getting kind of tired of waiting for me to get work-related stuff done in order to hang out with her.

I feel inert. lol.

I'm seeing some former coworkers tomorrow to hear about an architectural office that they're trying to start up, maybe something will come from that. But otherwise? I've got ability, and have nowhere to apply it. Instead the time wastes away, because I've come to discover that my profession is only required during times of growth. If no one's got reason to be ambitious because of the current legislative and economic environment, they don't need me preparing drawings, pulling permits, and working with the contractors.

I have been writing, a few friends suggested I can at least do that much with the time. Right now, I'm writing as a practice of writing, though I have a few shorts that I think I could turn into complete stories in the future. If something comes of that maybe I won't have been inert afterall. lol.

are you an architect? the feds are hiring tons of architects right now. I noticed that when I was hunting the site.

I haven't taken (and passed) all of the licensing tests. I was just going to start down that road when everything started slowing down (the total test fees add up to ~$1200). I'm in the weird place between getting the accredited bachelor's degree and getting a license which makes a person officially an 'architect'. I'll check the usajobs site though, I've been checking caljobs every day for a couple of months now, but us jobs only sends an email weekly.

A big "hang in there" to all our out-of-work Watchers. :(

It's the middle of vacation week for me. Magickmaker has impoverished herself by buying a MacBook Pro, Batty is looking for a dentist in somewhat of an emergency, and I'm just hoping to get to the pool today...

One of my best mates is an architect (here in UK). His salaried job is in the doldrums at the moment, but alot of people are building extensions or doing conversions on their own houses these days, and so his private (evenings/weekends) work is better than it's ever been. Not sure how it works in the US, but perhaps looking for this type of job would prove more fruitful?
