...And as Orlion says, you can't always discuss SRD, but there are plenty of other areas to talk crap .

To be perfectly honest, if this board had been only about SRD, I woulda been gone long since. In fact, a quick look at my stats shows that in 5 years, I've only made 1024 posts in a SRD-related forum. (A fun number for the computer geeks among us. ) A measly 3.5% of my total posts. (I'm just not that into analysing literature...reading it, yes. Analysing it...not so much. )

Yeah, I'm at 5.37%, and I'm sure that number drops daily.

The wide diversity of possible conversations are one of the (several) important factors that make the Watch such a good place.

My posts in the SRD forums increase when I'm rereading the Chrons, which I haven't done in quite awhile. I suspect my participation will increase in there again once AATE is published (come on, 2010!).

In the meantime...I bounce back and forth, but I think I mostly post in GenDisc.

I'm sorry to say that I hardly ever post in the SRD forums anymore. I guess I'm all talked out on it. But, back in the day, I LIVED in the Chrons and Dissections forums.

And Stevie, I love looking at all the old threads too. Finding what I said back then kinda makes me cringe at times, but it was fun. Nice trip down memory lane every once in awhile.

Yes, back in the day I lived at KW, too. Actually, last week I was re-reading all the Dissections and commentary for The Illearth War. Meanwhile, the Second Chronicles group reads, because I joined in then, remain the best time I've ever had at KW (all right, it might be a tie with literati, but technically that was outside of KW). At their best, the TC dissections were even more fun than reading the books themselves.

You and HLT nailed it regarding forum burnout. I should emphasize that I don't mind when new members have their say on TC topics that have been covered already, because that is the function of KW - as a place to talk TC. I think it's natural for new generations of Watchers to come along and make the place their own and inevitable that they would more or less correspond only among themselves, since they're the ones bringing new energy with them to KW. In this way, KW constantly refreshes itself, and since there always seems to be new people being drawn to KW, this message board may endure for a long time - even if the names and faces on it come and go. (Save stubborn veterans like CovJr, Syl, Lore and others who refuse to go quietly into the night...) <-- a jest meant in good humor.

Now, according to the dictates of both allodoxaphobia and catagelophobia (thanks, lorin), I expect to be regretting this post by tomorrow - just in time for tea, too!

I'm currently starting Lord Foul's Bane again while waiting for the next Malazan book to turn up. I've read the first 2 chapters in conjunction with the dissection - it's a whole new experience! And I really can't believe there's 6 pages of discussion on the first 2 chapters alone! And I do wonder if any of the members of the past with those great insights will ever return.

I think you're right Ali that the Chronicles threads will get a fresh pasting when AATE comes out. It may even coax some old members out of retirement... In the meantime, places like KW get larger and perhaps some of the old members miss the intimacy of a smaller forum? I guess change is a part of life... and we all deal with it differently.
