So, predictions on when we get to 1,000,000? My guess is August 13, 2012. :)

No probs...was hanging around waiting for it, in case nobody noticed and saved it.

Actually, I think that's pretty close. The year anyway. Give or take an extra one depending.

I'll play.
Especially since we are using 2012 as a possibility.

With the possible positive and/or physical transformation that some say will occur at the end of the current baktun cycle of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, I will go with the date of the resetting of Time as the day the Watch hits one million posts. So, my entry is:
  • December 21, 2012
...or maybe December 23rd, depending whose research you accept. ;)

Okay. So what you're saying is, the last day of the Mayan calendar simply marks the date when the Watch will tick over a million posts?

I mean, I suppose it makes as much sense as some of the other theories I've heard....

No, no...

I'm saying that along with Time starting again, and the transformation(s) take place, the Watch will coincidentally (or perhaps not) tick over 1,000,000 posts.

It was as significant a date in 2012 as I could find. ;)

You can use any year really. :) Here's my dodgy logic:

100k - 200k - 10 months
200k - 300k - 10 months
300k - 400k - 11 months
400k - 500k - 10 months
500k - 600k - 8 months (FR released)
600k - 700k - 15 months

700k - 800k - 12 months - August 2010
800k - 900k - 9 months (AATE released) - May 2011
900k - 1 mil - 15 months (post AATE lull) - August 2012 (13th because it's my son's birthday...)

Has anyone (someone with better name recognition than mine) ever tried coaxing some of the older members back to posting on the Watch?
I understand burnout (seeing the same questions asked over and over again by newbies, which I include myself when I first got here) but there's been a lot of new insight since the GI started.

I always like revisiting old discussions every once in a while... I like to show off :P But as far as staying active, participation in some of the other forums (such as the Tank) have helped me quite a bit... maybe we could push for that....

But here are some fun numbers from other author's fan forums (this is the number of posts they have)

Stephen King- 105,475
Michael Crichton- 2088
J.K. Rowling (Muggle Net)- 1,358,387

 Nice one Orlion!

I'd love to see more 'old' members here too. Just reading some of the dissection threads, and even some of the older threads around, it looked like people had some great insights. And as Orlion says, you can't always discuss SRD, but there are plenty of other areas to talk crap :P .

I like it a lot when old members re-appear - I guess things get old after a while. But it's nice to see Edge, DukkhaWaynhim, Landwaster, Safetyjedi etc around (don't know any of you, but still nice to see you around!) - it's good to see a mix of old and new IMO.

To be perfectly honest, if this board had been only about SRD, I woulda been gone long since. In fact, a quick look at my stats shows that in 5 years, I've only made 1024 posts in a SRD-related forum. (A fun number for the computer geeks among us. ;) ) A measly 3.5% of my total posts. (I'm just not that into analysing literature...reading it, yes. Analysing it...not so much. :) )

The wide diversity of possible conversations are one of the (several) important factors that make the Watch such a good place.

I'm sorry to say that I hardly ever post in the SRD forums anymore. I guess I'm all talked out on it. But, back in the day, I LIVED in the Chrons and Dissections forums.

And Stevie, I love looking at all the old threads too. Finding what I said back then kinda makes me cringe at times, but it was fun. Nice trip down memory lane every once in awhile. :D

Here's to 700,000+ posts! Whew...we all sure have alot to say, don't we??? Heh!
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.
