Hmm, a city setting is tempting for the character idea I've had sitting for a while. It won't make the idea any less ill-advised, but it'd be more fun.
I'm not sure about another game. I'm having difficulty commiting to Aesir, though it may be just because I don't have much investment in the character.

Wow, I'm somewhat amazed at the enthusiasm this is generating. And a forum already. Sweet. Thanks, Av.
I like the idea, Goat, but in reality it would be impossible for me to enforce. Mods can cheat by looking at IPs, and everyone can PM. So, I am just going to highly encourage everyone to do so, and I will insist all game communication (in character as well as the comments thread) be from the character account.
Menolly, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The goal is really the same in Pantheon, but nobody's gotten there yet. And once somebody wins, the story doesn't have to be over (either you can play king of the mountain or, if you end up with a benevolent tyrant, play out your mythos until you feel you've achieved your personal goals). In fact, that could be a very good reason to elect a 'King/Queen of the Gods' amongst yourselves, if you so choose.
Just to confirm, I have Caam, Av, Seven Words, Balon, Goat (? obviously, I have to know who people are, because I can never keep the alts straight), Murrin, Brinn, Lore, Fist, and Earthfriend. I will allow two more.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Yeah, the Third Age has driven that point home to me, although I have never approached Pantheon in that manner.

Maybe.
All right. I'm in to start, if you'll have me.Syl wrote:Just to confirm, I have Caam, Av, Seven Words, Balon, Goat (? obviously, I have to know who people are, because I can never keep the alts straight), Murrin, Brinn, Lore, Fist, and Earthfriend. I will allow two more.
I loved Purgatory and think you'll run a great game I'll regret not taking part in. I could always withdraw if what happens turns out not to be fun for me and open a space for someone else down the line.

Yeah, it's no problem if a player drops out or just hibernates. Minor gods fade away or end up playing only minor parts all the time. Part of the problem with Purgatory is that we had so few players to start that there really wasn't any room to advance the story if one or more players zoned out. Doesn't look like we'll have that problem here, though if we get less than five actives, you all might have to worry a bit. But unlike Purgatory where everything was a result of players' actions, there's quite a few things I plan on throwing at you all which could effectively end the game if not responded to with sufficient force.

I definately think a smaller scale setting will be better for this character idea than Pantheon. I have been sitting on it for a while, but have never been sure if it would work at all. I'll have to see what this game looks like when you put it together.
Again, I'm not certain I'll join, particularly with the way Aesir has been for me (missing almost every deadline, leaving power unspent for lack of ideas, making stuff up as I go with no goal in sight...).

I think the masters of the various games here will verify that me "zoning out" has never been a problem in any game I've taken part in...
With your creativity, that only makes it more appealing.Syl wrote:But unlike Purgatory where everything was a result of players' actions, there's quite a few things I plan on throwing at you all which could effectively end the game if not responded to with sufficient force.
Thanks Syl.

yeah, it's all on the honor system, though I don't think we could stop Menolly from quietly stressing herself into a frazzle until she's worked out which is which.Syl wrote:I like the idea, Goat, but in reality it would be impossible for me to enforce. So, having never played one of these...what do I do??? Do I need to send a character description to Syl? What should this description encompass? I'm very new, I need someone to hold my hand!!!
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Registered. Please be aware that I (the player) am not revealing my identity. That truth may be revealed at the end of time, when all is dust and darkness.
"I am Nakhetemet, Lord of Time. We each measure our lives by the days, the movements of the Celestial Bodies, and by the seasons. What if I were to measure time by the dissolution of everything? What if you were to count your days by how much you have aged, by the number of grey hairs on your head and the wrinkles on your skin? Time is measured as the world turns to dust."
