Did anyone here ever date on line? Was it successful for you?

I am finding there are a lot of fruitcakes out there. About half of the guys I've met have turned out to be fake. I am not saying there were some fake aspects, I am saying they were completely non existent.

I just do not understand what kind of charge these guys can get out of putting up fake profiles. Well, actually I am guessing it is exciting for these people that actually dont have much 3D contact. Maybe it's me. I tend to be a transparent person, whatever I am, I am, no games. Maybe that is not just the 'way' in this modern world.

It is hard to be a single woman these days, (or a single man). Especially in my field, social work. All the people I meet all day are the dregs. (yes, very judgmental and not social servicey, I know).

Anyway, feedback appreciated.

The last time I did an online dating service was in college, when computer dating was in its infancy. I kept getting matched with Chinese grad students. Finally gave up.

Very sorry to hear that you're getting nothing but scam profiles, Lorin. I don't have any experience with online dating, so no wisdom here...just empathy.

I've talked to two really hot girls on the phone from it... The first one never returned my third phone call, the second it's an act of God to set up any date with her. Another really nice one messaged me, but then she also went insane and never responded after awhile. Maybe it's my Illearth glow.

I gave up and just asked a girl out on Facebook, and she said yes, so we'll see how that goes.

Maybe she went sane not insane when she realized she was heading to a 3d meeting with you and you would discover she was actually a 60 year old grandmother with warts and psoriasis.

How did you know they were hot? From the sound of their voice? I'm 54 and I can make my voice sound hot as lava and people say I sound 20 (from years and years of not smoking)

Anyway, you are one step ahead of me.......at least you talked to them live. So let me know how it goes. I'm pulling for you!

How do I know? Well, one had -several- pictures of herself not just on the dating website but on MySpace, and another on Facebook. The one I was most attracted to -sounded- young in that kinda unmistakable way. Or maybe mistakable, but it was hard to mistrust when her visage was dispersed over multiple websites.

I'm very ambitious. Right now one in my town has guaranteed a date with me, just matter of when. She's pretty intelligent (knows the word "nihilist" and also photogenic!), and there's this other chick who might date me, but of course I'd never let both of them know. Once I begin dating one, though, the others are put on hold. I'm not a player--I hope. I don't know yet. I'm too nice, I think!

And here was I thinking my husky voice (a product of years of smoking and drinking) was sexy in a kinda youthful way. :( ;)

I have never had the flu before, and I am discovering that it is not fun. And sleeping all day is very confusing.

Glad to hear it Auleliel. Hope you continue to improve. I've never been one to get bad flu's, but a squash team-mate hasn't played for 3 weeks because of it (and he's like me - "never been one to get them"). It sounds nasty, nasty, nasty.

Actually, my first and hopefully only post netted me a wife that many here will vouch for. I suspect I'm the lucky exception, as my wife had been going through that scene for a long time before she lucked out and found me. In fact, she had said I was the last date she was going to go on from the site (Craig's List). She had gotten as frustrated as you sound. She has told me a few horror stories.

But yeah, I guess you just have to learn how to read these things. I guess it's the same as many things - if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

actually, i know 2 other of my close friends who got lucky on the online dating service thingy.

they actually both found the right man for them. honestly, as they say in
the tide commercial "at first i was skeptical". one of my girlfriends went through a slew of guys, one of which was a real nutcase, till she found the right guy. and their relationship is now about...5 years old i think. they are not married but thats a choice they made together, to keep their own homes and stuff, and they like it that way so it's worked out for them long-term. (they both have daughters from previous marriages and i think that's part of the reason they don't move in together - the other part is that they both have kinda weird neurosises about having their space invaded, they couldn't be more alike if they tried!! lol!!!)

my other friend and the guy she found online are married. happily.
in fact, they lived together for 5 years before getting married last year
and they're even happier now that their married. ( i talked on the phone to the husband yesterday and realized he has the exact same speech patterns as my girlfriend now, same inflections, etc. they both have an incredibly glib sense of humor and totally dry delivery of said humor)

so...well lorin ya just never know what you'll find online. a nutcase or a husband! heh.
