The orignal Band Aid recording of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (1984)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jEnTSQStGE

It's Christmastime
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime

But say a prayer

Pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging
chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
(Oooh) Where nothing ever grows
No rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

(Here's to you) raise a glass for everyone
(Here's to them) underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world

Feed the world

Let them know it's Christmastime again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

I remember seeing this when it first came out, and I watch it now and think...Where has the time gone? George Michael, Sting, Bono (love you Paul!), Boy George???? 8O They were all so young...
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~fly fly little wing, fly where only angels sing~

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~

...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

It's not a carol, but it's appropriate anyhow, I think.

The Shortest Day, a poem by Susan Cooper for The Christmas Revels

And so the Shortest Day came and the year died
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.

They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive.

And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us - listen!

All the long echoes, sing the same delight,
This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And now so do we, here, now,
This year and every year:
Welcome Yule!

Love it, Ali! :)

Josh Groban doing "O Holy Night". My favorite Christmas Hymn. My brother sang this song every year from the time he was 8 years old... Ah, sweet memories.

I heard the bells on Christmas day - Casting Crowns

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And mild and sweet their songs repeat
Of peace on earth good will to men

And the bells are ringing
Like a choir they're singing
In my heart I hear them
Peace on earth, good will to men

And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men

But the bells are ringing
Like a choir singing
Does anybody hear them?
Peace on earth, good will to men

Then rang the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men

Then ringing singing on its way

The world revolved from night to day
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men

And the bells they're ringing
Like a choir they're singing
And with our hearts we'll hear them
Peace on earth, good will to men

Do you hear the bells they're ringing?
The life the angels singing
Open up your heart and hear them
Peace on earth, good will to men

Peace on earth, Peace on earth
Peace on earth, Good will to men
We miss you Tracie but your Spirit will always shine brightly on the Watch Image

Joseph's Lullaby--Mercy Me

Go to sleep my Son
This manger for your bed
You have a long road before You
Rest Your little head

Can You feel the weight of Your glory?
Do You understand the price?
Does the Father guard Your heart for now
So You can sleep tonight?

Go to sleep my Son
Go and chase Your dreams
This world can wait for one more moment
Go and sleep in peace

I believe the glory of Heaven
Is lying in my arms tonight
Lord, I ask that He for just this moment
Simply be my child

Go to sleep my Son
Baby, close Your eyes
Soon enough You'll save the day
But for now, dear Child of mine
Oh my Jesus, Sleep tight
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

Christmas in the Northwest
Angela Brown
www.youtube.com/watch?v=koeB4z4c_7M

The wind may not blow
Might not even snow
But there's nothing like Christmas
Right here at home

It may not be white
Might be a rainy night
But there's nothing like sharing
The sounds and the sights of ...

Christmas in the Northwest
Is a gift that we can share
Christmas in the Northwest
Is a child's answered prayer

Take away the presents
And they still will have a dream
For Christmas in the Northwest
Is a gift God wrapped in green

That first Christmas night
Under just one light
In a small town, a child came down
The Father's gift of love and life

And so, I dedicate this prayer
To the children in our care
That we teach them of the gifts of love
He has planted everywhere
Just like ...

Christmas in the Northwest
It's a gift that we can share
Christmas in the Northwest
Is a child's answered prayer

If you take away the presents
Why, they still will have a dream
For Christmas in the Northwest
Is a gift God wrapped in green

And I know it may not turn out white
But it's still 'silent night'
So gather those you love
And tell the story of the gift of living
Believe we see from the one who's giving
Giving us ...

Christmas in the Northwest
Is a gift that we can share
Christmas in the Northwest
Is a child's answered prayer

And even if you take away the presents
I still would have a tree
For Christmas in the Northwest
Is a gift God wrapped in green

This is my happy, shiny "Chr-stmas" song.
When this one comes on, just picture me bopping around as I sing along...

Snoopy's Christmas~The Royal Guardsmen
Lyrics and Chords

O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter...

[Capo 3]

The news it came out in the First World War
The bloody Red Baron was flying once more
The Allied Command ignored all of its men
And called on Snoopy to do it again

/ D A7 / - D / - G / A7 D /

Was the night before Christmas and forty below
When Snoopy went up in search of his foe
He spied the Red Baron and fiercely they fought
With ice on his wings, Snoopy knew he was caught

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ring out from the land
Asking peace of all the world
And good will to man

/ GA D / / GA DBm / GA D /

The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights
He reached for the trigger to pull it up tight
Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know
Or was it the bells from the village below

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine
And forced him to land behind the enemy lines
Snoopy was certain that this was the end
When the Baron cried out "Merry Christmas, mein friend!"

The Baron then offered a holiday toast
And Snoopy our hero saluted his host
And then with a roar they were both on their way
Each knowing they'd meet on some other day

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

I can't find the lyrics to paste in here and I can't remember well enough to type in myself, but this is a great gospel tune by The Gaither Vocal Band. I play/sing in my church's Praise Band and we have played this song several years now...

Here's another beautiful one.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TXxlKLCCMY&NR=1

A Strange Way to Save the World--4Him (the video has scenes from the Nativity Story.)

Sure he must have been surprised
At where this road had taken him
'Cause never in a million lives
Would he had dreamed of Bethlehem
And standing at the manger
He saw with his own eyes
The message from the angel come to life
And Joseph said...

(CHORUS)
Why me, I'm just a simple man of trade
Why Him, with all the rulers in the world
Why here inside this stable filled with hay
Why her, she's just an ordinary girl
Now I'm not one to second guess what angels have to say
But this is such a strange way to save the world

To think of how it could have been
If Jesus had come as He deserved
There would have been no Bethlehem
No lowly shepherds at His birth
But Joseph knew the reason
Love had to reach so far
And as he held the Savior in his arms
He must have thought...

(CHORUS)
Why me, I'm just a simple man of trade
Why Him, with all the rulers in the world
Why here inside this stable filled with hay
Why her, she's just an ordinary girl
Now I'm not one to second guess what angels have to say
But this is such a strange way to save the world

Now I'm not one to second guess what angels have to say
But this is such a strange way to save the world
...this is such a strange way to save the world...Saving the World

Merry Christmas Everyone! From our house to yours, Peace, Joy, Light and God's Grace be with you all!

"Hark! the herald Angels sing! Glory to the new born King!" :hearts:
For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

danlo posted the video showing the group performing this (which is great!) in Gen Dis. But here is a cute animated version that I simply adore.

The Christmas Can-Can ~ Straight No Chaser

Christmas, Christmas time is here
And Christmas songs you love to hear.
Thoughts of joy and hope and cheer
But mostly shopping, shopping, shopping!

Christmas, Christmas time is here
The sleigh bells and the red nose deer.
Song and songs we love to hear
All played a thousand times each year.

Heard this same song twenty times
And it’s only Halloween!

(Joy To The World)

(I saw three ships come sailing in on Christmas Day on Christmas Day)

Christmas, Christmas time is here
(Hark The Herald Angels Sing)
And Christmas songs you love to hear
(Joy To The World)
Thoughts of joy and hope and cheer
But mostly shopping, shopping, shopping!

Christmas season, starting sooner every year!
It’s October!
Stores with plastic Christmas trees!
Ransack the mall!
Shopping till you loose your mind!
Spike the eggnog!
Sit back and watch Rudolph, Frosty, Tiny Tim, and Scrooge, the Grinch or Charlie Brown
It’s time!
(hey)

It’s time to do the Christmas Can-Can
If you can’t can’t dance
Well that’s’ ok!
Not going to do the kick line!

All you need is a tree, some lights
presents wrap them up and pray for snow!
(Ho!)

Run to your closet,
Find your Christmas sweater,
Screaming carols all the way!
(fa la la la la la)

Maine all the way to California,
It’s the Christmas Can-Can,
Halloween to Christmas Day!

It’s the most wonderful time of year,
We’re running mad with Christmas cheer!
(Hey what’s the trouble with you my friend?)
It’s not fair if you’re Jewish, Jewish.
Not fair if you’re Jewish, Jewish.

Dreidle, dreidle dreidle
I made it out of clay!
You realize that Christmas ain’t the only holiday!
(oy)

Hey he’s right, who made these laws?
Look! Wait here comes Santa Claus!
Santa Claus! Santa Claus! Santa Claus! Santa Claus!
Santa, Santa, Santa, Santa,
Santa, Santa, Santa, Santa!
GUYS!

Hey Santa do the can-can,
Help them if you can-can,
Join in the parade!
(I’m gonna go grab some Chinese food.)

All you need is tree, some lights, about a thousand
presents wrap them up and pray for snow!
(Ho!)

Run to your closet,
Find your Christmas sweater,
Screaming carols all the way!
(fa la la la la la)

France all the way to Indiana,
It’s the Christmas Can-Can,
That’s the end!
WAIT!

For our ending we should share this holiday
hava nagila…Happy Hanukkah to you,
a happy Hanukkah to you,
a happy Hanukkah to you,
A Merry Christmas, Hanukkah,
and also Kwanzaa!

A Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah
And Merry Kwanzaa too!

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Yeah. It's sad and beautiful at the same time. Christmas can be that way for a lot of folks. I doubt many here, but it's a nice piece indeed. Lyrically complex too, like a poem.

Here's one from left-field (as if Leonard Cohen wasn't left-field enough):

I know everything changes
Yeah, it's strange how time marches on
Maybe there'll be some time in the future
Oh, tell me I'm not wrong

Oh, if I could stop time
It would be a frozen moment just around Christmas
When all of mankind reveals its truest potential
And there is sympathy for the suffering
Yes, there is sympathy for those who are suffering

And the world embraces peace and love and mercy
Instead of power and fear
And as sure as I'm standing here
I swear it really does appear that a change comes over us
Yes, some kind of change comes over us

And it's glimpsed for one shining moment
And this change feels like a change that's real
But then it passes along with the season
And then we just go back to the way we were
Yes, we just go back to the way we were

Say it isn't so
Tell me I'm not just a dreamer
I'm talking with a friend and he knows how it ends
He says it's easier, that's just the way we are
That's human nature and that's just the way we are
Oh, say it isn't so!

Christmas Day, 1986 1:02am

It’s Christmas time again, that joyous time when all my family is home and gathered to celebrate the birth of our Lord. We have just come from midnight services, and I was privileged to sing my favorite Christmas song, O Holy Night, this year and after, read from the Bible:

And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

And all went to be taxed, everyone into his own city.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David. To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

And she brought forth her first born Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone around about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign onto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” --Luke 2:16 KJV

I did not actually have to read it, for I know it in my heart and memory. What a glorious and precious story! The account of our dear Lord Jesus’ birth. On this holiest of nights I am filled to the brim with His presence.. “my cup runneth over”. I do not know what is ahead of me in this life, but I know, somehow it will be a short life. Why? I have no answer, but I know it, as certain as I know my own name. So, on this Christmas Eve, I am comforted by having my Lord in my heart. And there He will remain, until He calls me Home.

Joy to the world! The Lord has come! Let Earth receive her King!

“God bless us, every one.” –Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol.
I sing to life
and to it's tragic beauty
to pain and to strife
and all that dances thru me
the rise and the fall
i've lived thru it all...

To my brother, Steve, who held a grace and light beyond words, God bless. I love you --Tracie

I posted this in the three deity games in Gravin Threndor, as the primary domains of each of the deities I play in those games are represented here, but the wish applies to all here as well...
