A First Time Reader.
Moderators: Cord Hurn, Cagliostro
Sorry been way too busy recentley to be reading but I got back into it last night. Just met Sorus ( Soar is an excellent name for her ship) and The Bill and Marc Vestebule made another appearence.
Really starting to like Nick as well.
PS is there any picture available of Captains Fancy, Trumpet, Calm Horizons etc? Just now I am imagining them somewhere between the Planet Express from Futurama and a 'modern' space shuttle.

But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
Full of the heavens and time.

Well they are all pretty ugly.. Captain's Fancy, Bright Beauty and Soar are all orehaulers, I think.. some more modern than others, but designed for deep space so no aerodynamics for atmospheric travel would've been considered.. Despite that I still imagine Soar to be in a similar design to NASA space shuttles.. i have no idea whhy.. but it dissappears when I remember she used to go by a different name.
The Amnion defensives I imagine would be the same shape as the ship Event Horizon, from the awesome movie of same name.
The UMCP warship Punisher I consider longer, and bulkier..
I've just finished The Gap into Madness today and there was a line which was so Thomas Covenant coming from Morn - 'not self - destruction, I need a better answer'..
I love it. But WHY oh Why is there a Mention of St Elmo's Fire in EVERY FU*KING BOOK??? Excepth 'The Real Story'..

I forgot to mention i finished ADAHGA a few weeks ago and i'm getting CAO for christmas so i'll continue then.
Really surprised how much I'm now enjoying the Documentation chapters. Hated them t begin with but now they are very interesting.
Angus, Dois and Min Doner are all awesome. So is Marc Vestebule.

For a while I found the Documentation a little jarring. I'm still not entirely convinced that there isn't a better way to give us that information.Warmark wrote:I forgot to mention i finished ADAHGA a few weeks ago and i'm getting CAO for christmas so i'll continue then.

A series that changes for whom to root for.
Agnus gets better, Morn is more confusing, and Nick gets more of being a villian.
Who started as your favorite character and who do you feel like it is now?
Twist and turns is throughout this series.
Enjoy the ride that Mr. Donaldson presents!

I'm back.
I've got about 100 pages left of Choas And Order and this definalty the first book in the series that has totally grabbed me.
I think Angus is still my favourite, but Hashi and Sixten are certainly very good characters. I also really like Trumpet - some of the things it has are amazing, SINGULARITY GRENADES!
I'm enjoying Nicks descent into madness/villiany. He deserves revenge on Sorus and i hope he gets it, although i think he will die in the process. Morn is quite annoying to be honest and im pretty neutral about Davies. I was actually quite gutted when Godsen died, his final choice got him killed.
Darrin is also quite sympathetic, i hope he gets away but i really doubt it.
I'm also liking how each book in the series gives us more perspective upon space. It begins with a story about Angus, Morn and Nick and each book reveals a little more. Dios, Holt, the Amnion. Massif - 5 ( which is serisouly cool) When is Terminus going to play a part?
I'll probabley finish the book tomorrow so I'll be back then.

That looks like a very fancy Dust-buster!! And either Nick's a giant or Vector's a midget. But yeah, nice rendering.billingsgate wrote:Heres a picture of Nick and Vector checking the underside of Captains Fancy in Billingate dock.
Note Vectors break dancing skills.

THAT is how Nick dies? Seriously?
(small point, anyone else think the blurbs are pretty rubbish?)

Which blurbs - you mean the ancillary documentation? I enjoyed them, myself.
As a method of exposition, it was much better than having two people sitting in a room, one of them saying "Let's go to tach!" and the other responding, "Oh, you mean the Juanita Estevez Tachyon Jump Drive? Ok!"

Warmark, I added spoiler tags to your post. I think most people who come to the Gap forum have read the books, but not all (such as you ). In a different topic I'd probably have left it alone, but I think 'first time reader' might suggest an absence of spoilers. I hope this doesn't offend.

Yeah, I felt Nick deserved better. At least he got some drama before his unceremonious end. His daring boarding of the ship was impressive.
I really didn't expect Nick to die though. It always seemed to me as though when the end of the universe finally came, all that remained would be Angus and Nick fighting.

I'm tempted, tooAvatar wrote:Think I'll be rereading these soon.
