Foul to Africa
I'm going to be leaving for 6 months on a trip to Africa (to find my roots). My dad was a government clerk for the Uganda Prime Minister in 1984, so's... He knows folks (and nice hotels). So. Bye.
Lots of pics and funny moments to come!

I'm envious. I'd love to do something like that. There are so many remarkable places in the world, and I've experienced so few. I don't want to be an old man and regret never making the effort.
I recently had an offer to backpack around Japan, but I can't afford the flight. Since working on my undergrad dissertation, I'd love to spend a few months/years living in Sicily, but that's just not possible.

Sicily--never been Cov, but parts of Italy are lovely, especially Siena. I also echo your sentiment about Japan--especially historic Kyoto (I'd definitely retire there if I hit the lottery, knowledge of Japanese language or not!). But yeah. I felt vaguely safe in London in 2006, so most likely I'll be fearing for my life in Africa during the global economic collapse. I like to tempt fate and militaristic governments.
Av: I may visit South Africa. Six months is a lot of time, so who knows! But--I'll be doing a semester of my Masters in Information Services in Uganda (part of becoming a librarian in the future), so we'll see how busy I get in the Mother Continent.
Anywho. Ship date begins June 5th, so I'll be having pictures soon.
Mhoram--yes; Africa will be Africa Gone Wild when Foul hits. Even though it already has the most wildlife.

What are you saying? Ugandans have gills (ala Kevin Costner in Waterworld) or something distinctive to set 'em apart, if not blackness?aliantha wrote:Who said anything about anyone being black?

My reasons are kind of lame. I've done so much work on medieval Sicily that I feel I should see it. I already see it in my head. I want to work out which street was the site of Maio of Bari's murder, and go there.Lord Foul wrote:Sicily--never been Cov, but parts of Italy are lovely, especially Siena.
Hmm, academia is strangely intoxicating.

Oh yeah. I only wanted to go to England cause I was studying English. Heh. And to see the grass and feel that kinda-coastal-ish-damp air that seems to resonate everywhere, no matter how far inland you go.CovenantJr wrote:My reasons are kind of lame. You mean you're serious? You're really going to go to Africa for six months?

Well, in that case -- way cool! Have a great time!Lord Foul wrote:Killing the mood here, ali! Yeah.
I totally understand wanting to see the lands of your forefathers and foremothers. (Why else would I be bothering to learn Czech? Seriously, what other reason could I possibly have?)
