The chirp I hear is MSN Messenger...but even it may get quiet in the coming weeks of spring.
Tom Leher wrote:Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
Life is skittles and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
I do, don't you? 'Course you do.
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes ev'ry Sunday a treat for me.

All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Ev'ry Sunday you'll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison the pigeons in the park.

When they see us coming, the birdies all try an' hide,
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide.
The sun's shining bright,
Ev'rything seems all right,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

We've gained notoriety,
And caused much anxiety
In the Audubon Society
With our games.
They call it impiety,
And lack of propriety,
And quite a variety
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion
To want to dispose of a pigeon.

So if Sunday you're free,
Why don't you come with me,
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
And maybe we'll do
In a squirrel or two,
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

We'll murder them all amid laughter and merriment.
Except for the few we take home to experiment.
My pulse will be quickenin'
With each drop of strychnine
We feed to a pigeon.
It just takes a smidgen!
To poison a pigeon in the park.
Love prevails.

I'm exhausted. We did the whirlwind tour with baby Desmond turning 1 years old. We should have printed up tour shirts, but we didn't have the foresight. Desmond decided he needed to wake up at least a couple times each night of the trip. We had cribs at the places we stayed that were hotels, and we had a Pea Pod (which is a small tent) for the nights we stayed with my dad. He was not fond of the Pea Pod, and we were not fond of his hourly crying. The second night of that, I slept by the tent so that I could pat and reassure, but it meant sleeping on the floor.

Now he seems to be teething, and the damn molars are coming in. Since we've been back, he seems to be retesting the boundries - getting into everything we had slowed him down on, and now isn't sleeping well either. Last night it was a crying fit every hour, until we finally got him a bottle and some pain reliever. It's my first day back at work, and I'm exhausted. But I only work today, and then I have two days off.

Lotsa bad food, very little exercise and probably dehydrated.

Cag: Poor li"l punkin. He'll be back to normal soon. Traveling is disorienting for everybody...

Magickmaker and I did IKEA this morning. Brought back a mattress and foundation for me, and a pillowtop and bookcase for her. We are now exhausted -- but we both have comfy beds now, so it's all good. :)

Chris aka Bloodguard Bob's surprise birthday party yesterday was a big success. Considering his birthday is December 30th he was quite surprised. He tried to get out of coming to Terry and David's house three times but I wasn't letting him. Lots of fun was had by all. Especially Chris. Today it's stow lake with puppies and then putting a new layer box on the hive since they are multiplying rapidly and have practically filled the existing structure full of brood, honey, nectar and comb.

I'm tired of playing second fiddle and getting nothing in return except a whole bunch of unhappiness and little else. Tired of the excuses. Tired of the complications. Tired of the whole damn thing! Where's the "giving the finger" emoticon when you need it?

Oh and Caggy, Ali is right: Desmond will get back into his routine. I remember travelling with SoS when he was 11 months old. We went to Ireland and it was a nightmare (for various reasons but one was that SoS was so out of routine he wouldn't sleep, was grizzly, all that stuff). When we got back home he took a couple of weeks to settle but he did (well as much as SoS ever did).

As for the teething thing: I highly recommend Brauer teething drops. Homeopathic. Worked wonders for SoS (and he had such a low pain threshold--or appeared to). Not sure if it's an Australian product? If you can't get it in the states there may be an equivalent or I'll send you some (and see if US customs allows stuff like that to be imported).

sad - it is time to put our dog down. :(

he is old and in pain, showing little enthusiasm for life. i told julie i would make the decision when the time would be.

tomorrow i call the vet to make arrangements. i am hoping we are allowed to bury him at home.

this sucks.

Sarge: Taking a pet to be put down was always one of my duties. Difficult as it was I was also grateful in a way. I wanted to be there to show the animal as much love as possible in the hopes that it made things easier for them. (Most) pets bring such an invaluable contribution to a home. Condolences to you and yours on your loss.

Sorry about your puppers Sgt. The past two days have been good to mia via the postal service. Chris finally remembered to give me my Christmas card from Prebe so now I have two yuletide Prebe Jr pictures hanging on my fridge and then today I finally got my federal income tax return in the mail. Now I can stave off having to become a hooker for a few more months. :P

I don't -- but suddenly I'm reminded of that scene in "Airplane!" when Mrs. Cleaver stands up and says, "I speak jive!"

Monday's nearly over, which can only be a good thing. Today was busy at work -- catching up on tasks that people sent me last Friday when I was off. I'm hoping tomorrow is a little less nutty.

Ok, so I am being given a serious interview for management by the regional district manager tomorrow. I had planned on dyeing my hair Molly Ringwald red tonight. Should I just do it anyway or hold off so I look more conservative?
