New messages function shows old messages
When I use the new messages function in opening a thread (the pointy button next to the message) to start reading the thread from where I left off it shows old messages from the last couple of hours that I've already read.

Yes the term "View newest post" appears when the mouse icon is on it. It can show many old messages I've already read if they weren't posted too long ago.wayfriend wrote:The tooltip on that icon (if it is the one I think it is) says "view newest post" and/or "view latest post". I think it takes you to the last post, as opposed to the latest posts.
Surely that's not the purpose of this icon or if it is where is the icon for showing "Unread posts"? Having to look for the place I left off is an unnecessary annoyance

There's always more I discover I don't know about the Watch, but I don't think there's a "pick up where I left off" kind of feature.
On the main Forum Index page, there ls a "view posts since last visit" link. That will show you the threads that have been updated since you last visited, but it won't show you which posts have been added. (I just use the view last post link and then scroll back from memory.)
But as far as I know, the
button and the
button always take you to the last post. (Although the
button will disappear once you have read the last post.)

It doesn't take me to the Last Post, quite the contrary. It takes me to the oldest post posted in a length of time (an hour? more? I'm not sure)
When a thread is heavily trafficked that means you need to look for the place you left off. Haven't really tried the white button from the home page to say how it works.
My expectations are not bizarre and unheard of. You can find it in a lot of other forums

A little knowledge is still better than no knowledge.

This happens to me all the time, Av.
I'll click on the
after my initial read through and after refreshing the Index, and it will take me to the first post I read in that thread that day. Even if it is on the previous page.
This doesn't happen consistently, though. So I just scroll to wherever the next post I haven't read yet is when it does occur.
