We're always happy to have you, lorin!
Finished another glove tonight. Gotta fix the fingers on another one (and weave in all the ends) and then I'll have two pairs done, huzzah! Debating whether to fix the screwed-up glove next, or start working on pair #3. I'll probably start pair #3 -- fixing the screwed-up glove isn't going to be any fun....
We had an inch or two of snow today -- our first measurable snowfall this year. Predictably, several school districts called off school this morning, before any flakes had fallen.
Unbelievable.

I'm tired. I worked my butt off today to get a lot of stuff done. Then got rudely hassled by a messed up guy begging change at the BART station. He even went so far as to lean up against me trying to look in my bag as I was digging for my BART card. I went rigid, whipped my head around, looked dead into his eyes and said in a very loud and scary voice, "STOP! Do NOT TOUCH me! He immediately turned and practically ran away from me. As I turned back I saw the that the BART agent had already come out of the booth and was heading towards me. She made sure to make sure I was ok and I laughed and said I was tougher than I looked. She apologized again to me and told me she had already called the police and they were unfortunately taking their sweet time about getting there so then she promptly got on the phone and called them again.
On other notes, my boss has still not told me about my transfer and she is leaving for two weeks of vacation at the end of next week. I happened to see a deleted email from the big boss telling her he wanted my transfer to happen as soon as she got back from vacation. I wonder if she's planning on telling me at all since when Edward got transferred she never told him and when he called to ask what his schedule was, I got to be the one who told him we had been informed that he had been transferred. We shall see what happens because if she doesn't tell me before she leaves I am going to let the big boss know she neglected to inform me of major work changes. Another note on the transfer, the commute is going to jack me up even more, the station is eons away and there is no direct bus line.

The place I used to work has just cut its staff from around 60 to 7 employees... I have kept in touch with a few of my former colleagues and naturally it is a bleak place right now. Some people have given 30+ years of their life to this job, and with passion and humour (as opposed to some of the people I currently work with). They're too young to retire and too old to get a chance at another job. Others were the main income earners in young families. It's heartbreaking.

My first IT job had that happen to it. There were more people that stayed on, but then again there were more people to lose too. I was a casualty, and it sucked. However, I think I was luckier than those who stayed on, by the words from those I still talked with after. They did the work for all the missing people in their department.

I love how employers lay people off right around the holidays, so they don't have to keep them on the payroll into the new year. Jerks.
The holiday baking has commenced. Yum.

Their karma's gonna get 'em!
ali send some goodies our way (oh crap Xmas cards!!!
)
Yesterday I heard that Mercury's in retrograde and when that planet goes backward it's a bad time for technology and contracts-two days ago I got attacked by the Security Shield virus and it embeds so hard you have to get your comp totally flushed out. I drove through a minor snowstorm to Santa Fe and back to have my comp genie Forest disinfect my harddrive. 5 days ago our DVR hardware crashed and now the new unit they sent us won't connect to the satellite correctly-so I'm typing this while I await the technician's arrival.
So my one team in a Fantasy Football championship has to win without Malcom Floyd, who was benched when the Chargers played Thursday and I could not sub for him and, I couldn't pimp our College Bowl Game (at Ahira's hangar) on Facebook, and maybe, Obama signing the new tax legislation wasn't exactly a good ideal? Well, IMHO extending the tax cuts to the super-rich was a very bad idea...anyway, moral of the story?
Don't got to a website you don't know (you can't stop Security Shield once it appears, it's like "Alien" all over again). And, though it didn't happen there, never open any link anyone sends you on Facebook

fall far and well Pilots!
I am very excited. The interview I had on Wednesday went very well, and the school wants to hire me, so sometime soon--probably in January--I will be moving to South Korea for a year to be an English teacher. I will be teaching several small classes (10 students max. per class), and the age range is my favorite to teach, ages 9-15. And the school is paying for the airfare and housing. And I'll still be able to have Christmas with my family before I go. Life is good.

Mercury in retrograde would explain the netbook follies. Finally got off my butt and contacted the manufacturer. After a couple of e-mail exchanges, I broke down and called them. All I needed was the info for where to send the machine for warranty repair. Well, the nice man on the phone tried to tell me it was *out* of warranty because of their manufacture date. So I had to e-mail them a copy of the invoice to prove my purchase date. Threw in copies of the e-mails I got from Amazon for good measure.
I guess the moral of *that* story is to actually send in the warranty card....

I'm sure they'll work, lorin, but I think you'd be better off finding a place to live that includes the utilities in the rent. Man, a thousand bucks a month for heat? That's crazy.

Do you use a gas heater?
They might work... I've never worn satin, but I got some thermal wear from Wal-mart for working out side and they work great! So, I can't imagine otherwise...

Felt tired today... the boss thought I was depressed and asked what was going on. I kept saying nothing was wrong until I realized: I haven't eaten a whole lot the past few days! So, I had me some wheat crackers and havarti cheese, mashed potatoes, brocolli, covered in a nutrional yeast sauce, carrots, buttered toast, orange juice, brown rice vinegar mixed with water and honey, and a choccolate bar with hazel nuts. Later on, I'm baking oatmeal cookies

I found out yesterday that my grandfather had died earlier this month. I've been estranged from my family for many years - been almost 20 years since I last saw my grandparents, and hadn't seen them more than a few times in the 10 years before that. They contacted me a few years back wanting to meet, and I refused. They were strangers who were never there when I was growing up, people who were from a very different world, and meeting them as an adult for awkward small talk had no appeal. And now I get this letter saying that he was gone and he'd always loved me. So now I feel guilty. I feel like a bad person. And no doubt that was the intent - my family has always excelled at the art of guilt. I wish I could say I had loved him, I wish I could say I had fond memories... but the only memories I have are of small talk and criticism and a feeling that I would never measure up to their standards. But still, I feel guilty.
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?
