Kind of off topic, but someone mentioned Piers Anthony.

I'm one of those weirdoes who doesn't like Xanth at all - not even the first few good ones.

Incarnations of Immortality, now that was better. And the series that started with Out of Phaze. Blue Adept, etc. Not bad.

Nowhere near SRD, but not bad reads.

No, not bad, often very good for a teenager as I was at the time. But when they started reading like trashy dime-store novels I was forced to give him up some time in the 1980s. However, I had some momentum going, an interest, even a real love for that author's writing, that refused to die easily. I gave up on Blue Adept, bought another new Anthony and gave up on that one, then perhaps around the third time I wasted my money on an unfinished book, I quit trying altogether. That last time I don't believe i even made it through the first chapter. I had gone 180 degrees, from utter adoration to complete revulsion.

[Edit for those interested - maybe nobody but here goes: In 1987 I thought to revive my old interest in Anthony and bought Shade of the Tree. That was the story I could not make any headway with. An old Archie comic would be more enjoyable, even less silly, than Shade.]

Wait a second.

If giving the ring to someone else makes that person the rightful wielder, then Covenant hasn't been the rightful wielder since Illearth War.

Remember, he gave it to Hile Troy to have him save Elena.

This wasn't split yet. The first two were good, the third one was kind of a bummer. And for general interest, this series was based off of Anthony's unpublished senior graduation novel called The Unstilled World, in 1956.

Against the Word the unstilled world still whirled
About the center of the silent Word.
-- T.S. Eliot

That has been brought up on the GI. And I think it was considered a slip on Donaldson's part.
