I predict this will happen in TLD.
I was just about to add this to my list of "Official Predictions", when I realized that the moment the attempt was made, Stave would jump in front and take one for the team. I think he has to lose a body part a book. Let's just say that after taking a skurj-handed punch to the nether regions, he won't be making any more Galts. :D

It is ugly, and it's juvenile.. It's what a 15-yr old might have said.

And it's at odds with the cold, callous, calculating Roger we saw at the beginning of ROTE, or even the 'disguised' or 'revealed' Roger in FR.
The guy's got an insane Elohim's amputated hand grafted to the end of his arm. That's gotta change a person a bit.

I love the line, personally.

Just reading AATE again, and the Harrow really is growing on me, you know? Especially when they are trying to get through that portal..

Not such a bad character after all..

Disappointed

Post by SkurjMaster »

I was disappointed with the character of the Harrow. I thought he would be a more meaningful character to the ending of the series. He has more potential depth as a character than what was utilized.

Hey dude, I have bad news for you: this story isn't real. What you're saying is interesting factually but, in reality, nobody living in a small town American community is going to contract leprosy anyway. The entire leprosy premise of the Chrons is wayyyy out in left field.
In fact, most cases of leprosy in the US are in Rural Texas and Louisiana.
I don't know if there's a connection, but the armadillo is the only animal besides man that can contract leprosy.

I figured he would die fairly soon after taking the staff of law and the white gold. That was the only way that stuff could get back in Linden's hands where it belonged.

That does make sense, I gotta say.. And it's a lot more bearable than Linden being without her 'powers' and having many chapters of her perspective just whining about how she's powerless..

What else did you predict about AATE?

Well I meant not bad as in.. Interesting.. With depth, with a wide range of emotions, and with grand desires that would have been fun and involving to explore.. A good charcter, basically.
But as him being good / evil.. That's what makes him so interesting. We don't know. He is rude, uncaring, and his methods of achieving his goals are dishonourable.. But if his goals truly are what he stated, than how can he be bad?

I agree Ninjaboy, I thought the Harrow was a great character and was disappointed to lose him relatively early on in the story ..

Certainly one of the most vividly described, but a very dark and dangerous character who needed to be eliminated!
He ATE the demondim?
He TRIED to eat Linden?
His only redeeming quality was his plan to use Jeremiah to trap the worm.

The Demondim were undone through the plucking of that one string binding them to reality. That was exactly the same technique Linden used on the Door to where the Viles used to hang out.

No, it is simply that Roger is unimaginative and has a pathetic excuse for a vocabulary.

I believe that the Harrow had been killed off too early - after re-reading AATE again (as one does  ) the character of the Harrow began to grow on me.

Here is a character that understands how to use both the white gold & the staff - not afraid to take on Demondim etc...totally without morals.... my kinda guy!

Whilst his passing was spectatcular...(molten fist thru chest) I hope he comes back to haunt Roger for saying SUCK-errr .. :soapbox:
It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I read an article recently that they discovered leprosy can jump from the armadillo to humans, and that explains many of previously unaccountable infections.

A quote from Hamlet or King Lear?

Goes to show that Roger used words that was familair to him.
Also it shows that he didn't read his fathers books..
or anybody else for that fact.
Apparently he said something that doesn't belong in a fantasy novel. He spent most of FR saying similar things (f-bombs and such), so I wasn't particularly surprised at this one.
Definitely the way I saw it. Fit perfectly with the jarring way he acted and spoke while impersonating TC. I mean, he's the ultimate douchebag in a Land where everyone's so earnestly good or evil. This guy's just a schmuck with a white whine and Kastenessen's Hulk Hand.

Roger never read any of SRD books.
So sucker is the right word.
