Yep, lived my whole life in Nottinghamshire (not the city itself) until about four years ago, at which point I moved to Wales.

No way. There are (give or take) 13 words in that sentence. If it were from Trainspotting, at least three of those words would be the C-bomb.

<smiles and nods at the Scots, comprehending nothing>

It snowed here in DC yesterday. The wet, heavy stuff. And it was supposed to be worst at rush hour. So I bailed out of work at 3:30 and began making my way home. Got to Pentagon Metro with no trouble. Then stood on the bus platform for a good half-hour, waiting for a bus, any bus, to my neighborhood -- as the sleet turned to all snow. We could clearly see the problem: the highway was a parking lot, thanks to all the federal workers leaving early, too. Finally got on a bus and got home. My 45-min. commute took an hour and a half. But I'm not complaining -- the paper said one woman left her office at Dupont Circle at 4pm and tried to take the George Washington Parkway home to Reston. I could have told her *that* was a bad idea. She didn't get home 'til 5:30 the next morning. 8O

But my story has a happy ending. I'd ordered a new device for burning alcohol gel fuel in the chimenea, and it arrived yesterday. Perfect timing! I was able to have hot chocolate before a (sort of) roaring fire last night. :)

the benefits of living in a small town.......

I have been grounded with bronchitis and strep. I woke up this morning after another huge snowfall. I looked outside and my sidewalk, car, driveway are all cleared of snow  I have no idea who shoveled, it just was done. AND they salted and sanded. I felt like the shoemaker who had so much work, and the elves came and did the work while he was asleep.

I will sure miss this town when I have to move.....soon.
The loudest truth I ever heard was the softest sound.

Really enthused about an email that came in this afternoon. I have been helping a friend's son apply to some colleges outside the area he is most familiar with...and today I learned that one of them (my alma mater) is offering him admission -- with highest honors!

"Students ranking in the top 1% of our incoming freshmen class based on cumulative GPA and test scores are Admitted with Highest Honors, guaranteed admission into Western's Honors Program and offered a merit scholarship."

Still do not know what other aid will be forthcoming or if he will choose to attend there, but to have achieved this much feels very good!

Got some interesting news today. The store manager at my old store resigned today. She was about to be fired. Much rejoicing ensued. I texted my ex co-worker Zainab and congratulated her and she replied, "GIRL CALL ME!" so I called her and as soon as she answered the phone I broke into a rousing rendition of "Ding Dong the Witch is Gone, the evil witch, the wicked witch, ding dong the wicked witch is gone!" and she was in hysterics and made me sing it again on speakerphone for another of my ex co-workers. I stopped by on my way home at my old store to high five everyone. I miss that crew and one of the first things they were asking is if they could have me back.

Congrats, Cag!

I spent most of this week without internet, as my laptop battery was dead and the plug adaptor I brought from the US did not fit in the Korean outlets because Korean outlets are set into the wall instead of flush with the wall. My boss gave me her plug adaptor, so I've spent the past 5 hours online. Otherwise, life in Korea is pretty good thus far.
