DOH! How could I fail to mention this? Yes, nasty hailstorm moved across central west Phoenix back in October equals jobs today. Not only roofers, but siders, painters, carpenters masons, etc. 150,000 homes involved. Insurance company's are being decent about it. Everyday for the last few months,,at least 3 flyers left on front door by roofing companies. Every other house in my neighborhood has had a new roof installed within the last month or so. A BIG Ka-Ching is going on.

Just so you know, I trained one watcher back in 05, and he made 40k in four months. My best salesperson is in the 20k per month range- right here, right now.

Well it looks like I'm back in the rat race. I got a call this afternoon from a company I interviewed with the other day. They have offered me a position and I accepted. I have to pass a drug screening and a background check but I essentially have the job and will start as soon as the paperwork is finished.
It's been almost a year since I was laid off. I almost can't believe it's finally over.

I'm working a sub. teacher job, so I guess I'm not totally unemployed. I was unemployed from October until later January and that was quite annoying.

Will be getting my MLIS at Valdosta State University in Spring 2012. I think if I keep piling enough education it will eventually pay off, since the Bachelor's hardly got me a cup of coffee.

Thanks guys.
Now we need to find jobs for everyone who is still looking.

I'll never forget this experience.

Congrats, Tom!!!! May luck smile upon you!!

I am now gainfully employed, though my husband still is not. It's for a senior in-home care company, so I will be doing a lot of respite care for my clients. I don't have many hours, so far I'm only working 11 hours this coming week, but I hope to get more hours soon.

We are also having to look at homeless shelters because my father-in-law is causing a huge mess with us living here. So the more things progress, the less they actually do.

Good luck with the new job, Jaz. Here's hoping your husband finds something quickly so y'all can be out and on your own again soonest.

Congrats, Jaz! Hopefully, this is just beginning of your wisdom & efforts paying off. Just the tip of the iceberg.

Well, that sounds rotten and incredibly stressful. :(

I wouldn't assume it's 100% a "step backwards," if he has a controlling personality, though.

They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.

Shelter is hard, but not insurmountable. The shelter I work in is apartment style and pretty decent. Playgrounds, 24 hr security, medical, psychological services. It may be less stress than feeling indebted to a hateful relative.

grats tom and jaz.

i'm posting in this thread because i am, once again, as of this coming friday, gainfully unemployed. :(

the universe is trying to tell me something but damned if i know what the hell it is!!

everytime beren shoes gets low on cash and business starts to slow down for the season they can me. i'm not friggin goin back there again.

my only regret is that the job hunting thing has changed soooo much and
you can't just go get a newspaper and pound the pavement anymore.
gotta do the pavement pounding out here in the innerwebz ether. yuck.

i do better just walking into someplace and asking if i can fill out an application.

bookstores all over SF are closing right and left, which would be my first choice in looking for a new place to work. sad, sad panda.

hope you all don't mind if i come here for support from time to time.

once again, grats to aTOMic and Jaz
