Parsimonious Aunt

I
The old house was dark, not a single light was left burning. He unlocked the house with his key and entered. He did not bother turning on any lights; having committed the rooms to memory. In the living room, he passed by the coffee table. He reached out his hand for the old book.

Picking the book up; he walked on. He made his way in the dark to the staircase. As he climbed the stairs he passed the portraits of his ancestors. He could not see them in the dark. But he knew everyone of them by heart. With each step he solemnly counted out the numbers of his problems.

II
One: His dreams may very well be genetic memories.
Two: The woman in his dreams may have really existed.
Three: He may have descended from that dream woman.
Four: He may have been a paramilitary trooper in a previous life.
Five: He may have attacked a short order cook some nights ago.

III
He then started for the attic; repeating his mantra all the while.
“Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Aether.”

IV
He paused at the attic door, afraid to try it. At long last he opened the door and stepped inside the room. Here, moonlight relieved the darkness. It frosted familiar objects His childhood desk, a steamer trunk, some broken windows piled in the far corner. He smiled at the familiarity of it all; until something caught the corner of his eye.

Propped by the window was a mirror that did not belong. Cursing softly to himself as he stumbled to the door he had just entered. He now found it closed. Trying to open it, he found it locked. He heard a humming coming from behind. Turning he saw the mirror casting a faint glow. Without thinking he flung the book at it. The book burst into flames mid-air. Shutting his eyes fast, he waited for what must come next.

Inmate Request to Official

To: Captain Punch

Date: 07-02-2010

Address: Minos

Subject: I was not taken off the Advanced Reading List in April. Yet Warden Joe Smith gave me a regular library card when I came back from Muckle Unit.

I told the mail room attendantsI would give the Evil Eye if they keep stopping my mail. So in June (while I was on Special Restriction in Solitary)
the canceled my librarcard.

I need the Advanced Reading Card. The rudimentary reading list is killing me. I know how to read the advanced books when I see them; but these Primary Readers are killing me. The state is trying to kill me.

Dearest Reverend:
Well!! In the report of the crate and the tariff we stand corrected.
On Tuesday you communicated with Sergeant Null? Was the topic completely then connected? We are left deeply bereft. We thought that honesty would be with you. We are the kind that others are not. Completely and clearly there has been an injustice. What was intended and what was resulted were not always and entirely identical. It must be better handled. But it has seemed to dampen the fires which concern you. We are not approximately satisfied. We will further try and press you for modern shipment. We make apologies. We feel guilty more for it and regret that you could hurt easily. We can then with our clocks pursue hope; to estimate later. We manufacture the art of self portraits as animals starting to be embarrassed at the pain of man.

Our deepest regards…

Image

Test Card F is a test card, an image used to determine the quality of a broadcast television picture. Due to its use on BBC television for more than 30 years when broadcasting was off the air, it is probably the most commonly seen test card in the world. The picture shows a girl playing noughts-and-crosses with a doll, surrounded by various greyscales and colour tests needed to ensure a correct signal. It first appeared in 1968, on BBC Two.

Virtually all the designs and patterns on the card have some significance. Along the top are the main colours of white, yellow, cyan, green, magenta, red, blue and black. There are triangles on each of the four sides of the card to check for correct overscanning of the picture. The standard greyscale and frequency response tests on either side of the central picture.

On the updated Test Card J, the ‘X’ on the noughts-and-crosses board is an indicator for aligning the center of the screen. A person was depicted so that the wrong skin colour would be obvious. Even the garish colours of the Clown had a purpose, according to the BBC, because their juxtaposition is such that a common transmission error called chrominance/luminance delay made the Clown’s buttons show up white.

Often, the name of the broadcasting channel appeared in the space underneath the letter ‘F’. Originally a photographic slide, the card was converted to an electric version in 1984.

The card was developed by BBC engineer Joe Kafka, who died in 2001 at age 76. The girl in the picture is Sarah, one of Kafka’s daughters. The Clown doll is named OddJac.

Test Card F is no longer used by the BBC. It was last shown in 1999. Test Card J and Test Card W, which also feature Kafka, have replaced it.

History to the House of Fire and Ice

(Pink book)

With respect we contacted the guests of fire and ice.
The roses of fire and ice indicate the history of final romanticism.

The resistance.
(Shining crimson in color)

Against the frozen visualization of champagne.
An election of complexity.
Their eyes are confused with this dichotomy of passion and innocence.
Make this the end of your memories always…

Centuries of memories today!
When giving roses, the indicated amount can also add to the meaning.

A dozen = encores of gratitude.
Dozens = love without conditions.
More = a conscience that is guilty.

Rose history.
The rose is clearly our oldest flower.
They have always been known to man.
And have always been the most popular of flowers.

Nebuchadnezzar used them to adorn his palaces in Persia.
There they were developed for perfumed oil.
The petals were used to fill his mattresses.

In Kashmir, the Mogul emperors cultivated pretty pink gardens.
And roses were cast to rivers for receptions.
And they were given to the Houses that returned.

Roses later became synonymous with the worse excesses of the Roman Empire.
Farmers were reduced with increasing flowers instead of nutritional harvests.
The emperors fulfilled their baths and sources of swimming with increases.
They hosted Bacchanalian excesses with carpets of roses.
Cabals paid their guests with pink petals.
This reached their limits during festivals.

Roses are the flowers of love.
They were created by Chorus, the Greek goddess of flowers.
They sprang from the body of a nymph who found liberation in the woods.
She requested the aid of Aphrodite, the love goddess, who gave such beauty to her.
Dionysus, the god of wine, gave additional nectar to perfume the flower.
And with these three, we have this enchantment.
Brilliance and joy to them!
Soon Zephyr, the western wind, blew clouds of roses far and wide.
Apollo, god of the sun, then polished the flowers.

And thus began the rose era.

Sheila then conserved the age of vinegar.

See additionally…

Provide your guests with roses!
