Seemed to me while reading the "Gay Marriage" thread in the Tank that it evolved into discussions as to what were acceptable forms of sexuality in general. Age of consent, etc. was brought up. I tried to think of a thread for the Tank that would encapsulate these issues, but realised there were so many implications and possible lines of thought that whole forum could be an idea.
The Hegemony covers pretty much every other weighty topic of the times, so why not Gender and Sexuality? Threads on femininity/masculinity? LGBT issues? Monogamy versus polygamy? Chastity versus promiscuity?
Would anyone else be interested in this?

It does cover a lot of issues, but isn't as general as, say, politics, philosophy, history, science, etc.... There would be a lot retreading the same ground.
What I'd suggest is go ahead and make several topics based on various gender and sexuality issues. These would be in the Tank or the Close. How to choose? Depends on how you want to start it. If you have an article about a current event on the subject, chances are it'll be good in the Tank. If it's just about the idea of woman's place in the society, it'll probably be all right in the Close.
If it turns out this is a really broad subject that contains many different topics, the powers that be will probably create another forum
They just need the raw material first.
Now, I expect a lot of posting about these issues from you, post haste!

If we have discussions on some of the things you listed, personally, I think it might impact my family negatively.Cambo wrote:Threads on femininity/masculinity? LGBT issues? Monogamy versus polygamy? Chastity versus promiscuity?

Because like, you know, The Close is enough of a time sink. My mind is filled of visions of my baby crawling around the house with a dirty diaper whilst I expound upon the "femininity of motherhood."

Edit: P.S. I never read the lousy dates on things before posting...
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
