I am so sorry Sorus. I know how hard such a loss is. I lost my Rusty recently and it was heartbreaking. They are our children. My sympathies and support in your loss. And we MISS you!! *HUGS*Sorus wrote:I had to have my eldest cat put to sleep last week, and I'm still a wreck over that. He wasn't a young cat, and he'd been losing weight and energy... took him to the vet and they said it was probably cancer. His condition was going downhill pretty fast, and it was really the only thing I could do for him. I adopted him eleven years ago, no one was sure how old he was then - probably five or six. He'd gone feral after his original owner died - guy had about a dozen cats, all pretty neglected. I'd been working to get them all fixed - the SPCA had a program at the time where they did it for free. I hadn't intended to adopt him - he was a mess when I brought him in, all matted fur and fleas. The vet made some of joke about it, saying that he had no redeeming qualities, and something inside me snapped and I said that I was keeping him. It was pure impulse - came straight from the heart without checking in with the brain, and I never regretted it.

I think I've been reading too much Erikson. I actually used the expression, "Hood's Breath!" today and got an odd look from my co-worker.
Sorus and Creator, so sorry about your fuzzies. The love of a fuzzy is a serious business. I can't even imagine what it will be like for me if anything happens to Moose. I can't imagine my life without this face to look forward to. I took that one Sunday. Can you tell what he's thinking? It's a litany that goes like this...
"I'm a happy dog. I'm on the BEACH! I like to run! Look Mom! I'm running to you! Sand! Sand! Sand! Run! Run! RUN! I'm on the BEACH!!!! WHOOOOOO HOOOOODY!!!!"
He learned that last part from his beloved aunt lucimay.

Sorry to hear about Rusty, Creator.
Happy Administrative Professionals Day! We get a party later today. And cupcakes Friday from the place that's featured on the "DC Cupcake" show.

A quick shoutout to everyone who's lost furry family members lately. As someone who's owned (literally) dozens of animals in my life, I've been there many times.
Cyber hugs for everyone.

It is never easy to lose a pet. I've lost a few and cried and cried. I would even cry if I lost Helldog, (though not sure if it would be tears of joy.....only kidding) my sympathies to both of you.
I am up to 4 miles a day walking...and walking...and walking. My thighs have gotten bigger, ah well the price I pay for fitness. I hate starting but once I get going it feels really good. I am much more relaxed. It is helping with the lurking depression and the stress of my situation. And Helldog is happy.

Heh. I've finally gotten deep enough into the Dune books to know where "Gods Below!" comes from. Which one of you says that? Menolly?Cameraman Jenn wrote:I think I've been reading too much Erikson. I actually used the expression, "Hood's Breath!" today and got an odd look from my co-worker.
Dandelion don't tell no lies

Not me. But I have been known to call out, "Vagel, I'm coming!" The kids give me *such* weird looks when I do it....

Might be lucimay -- "gods below!" pops up in Erikson a lot too.

Now if I could just incorporate "By the hairy balls of the archimager" and/or "The Errant's bouncing eye!" into my repertoire. They just aren't as smooth as "Hood's Breath!" though....

Got a new dog! Brought him home yesterday--a 7 week old German Shepherd. Most adorable thing ever. The breeder we got him from said it's black and red but I'm seeing more tan than red.
He was calm the whole ride 50-mile ride and mostly just rested and looked around with its tongue hanging out.
After its first feeding and watering it follows me everywhere.
Pics forthcoming!

Thanks, SD!
Looking forward to a little Beltane get-together tomorrow. I'm in the process of making a tabletop Maypole, since I haven't got room in the apartment for the real thing.
Got the parts at the craft store this afternoon. I'll post a pic when it's done tomorrow, if I think about it.
Speaking of crafts: I'm working on my first sweater with steeks. Steeks are extra stitches added into the body of the sweater where openings are supposed to go (like for the sleeves and the neck. Once you've knitted up to the top of the sweater, then you stitch around the edges of the steek on the sewing machine and then -- gulp! -- cut it open with a pair of scissors. This afternoon I did the sewing and cutting. So far the thing is still in one piece, so I guess it did it right...
Yesterday was a happy/sad kind of day. We had a cupcake-and-coffee break in the afternoon, which I ended up organizing since it was my attorney's idea to do it.
The cupcakes were quite tasty and we got many compliments on the idea and the execution.
Then after work, I drove up to Baltimore for the wake for the nice lady who taught my first two Czech classes. She was quite elderly, but still.
Oh, and I hab a code in by doze. And the apartment building management broke down and turned on the a/c yesterday, just in time for the heat to break.
There, I think y'all are caught up now.
