OK. I guess it is my turn: What were the king's daughters doing in Havelock's augury?

(P.S. "Moving the plot forward" doesn't count as an answer...) :D

Myste was begging the champion not to kill her, and Elega was having sex with Prince Kragen....was Torrent in the augury? If so, I forget what she was doing.

You are correct.

No, Torrent wasn't in the Augury (or at least, she wasn't mentioned in the book). I stuck her in for my fanfic (The Spider and the Fly), just to make the "his daughters were in it" unambiguous. :)

What is Darsint's favourite curse? The one King Joyse comments that Castellan Lebbick would have enjoyed?

Something like, "What do you want done with Kragen's stuff?"

IIRC, they'd just tossed all the Alends baggage through a mirror to Orison, so the Alends could keep up.

Mind if I post a question?

What makes Mordant's neighbours (Cadwal and Alend) desire Mordant for their own? And bonus points for explaining why each can't have what they desire on their own home soil.

(As an aside, my mum actually gave me the middle name Myste because of this book ^^ Love her)

So you are Quiss Myste? What a festive name! Were you by any chance born in the latter part of December?

Sorry, I couldn't resist... :-|

Imagery? Is it what makes that world go round? Good question-you should start a thread about it!

This question has been addressed in a slightly different form before, but I'll make it very general-what type of mirror did Master Vixix have and what did it show?

Imagery wasn't the answer I was looking for :) Perhaps I made the question too ambiguous?

Arrrghh, this thread is showing me that I don't remember ANY details about certain things about MN. I thought I'd be great at trivia cause I really got into the books!

Quiss- awesome about your middle name!! I would like to give a daughter "Eowyn" for a middle name. But my husband says that's just out. Ahh well.

In response to Quiss' question:

The answer is twofold.

What the cares have that neither Alend nor Cadwal have, materially, is agriculture. The lands of the cares are both less mountainous than Alend and less dry than Cadwal. The cares are situated, largely, on fertile aluvial plains between.

What the cares have, strategically, that both Alend and Cadwal require is a way to most easily attack each other! The poor cares are simply stuck between two ancient enemies and occupying the swiftest road between them. If either Alend or Cadwal were to attempt to attack each other without going through the cares, it would require them to transport armies (and set up supply lines) through very difficult terrain (on one extreme - rugged mountains, on the other - coastal swamp).

On a personal note: I was very glad to stumble upon this discussion thread and it was why I joined. I am not a SRD fan, but the two books of Mordant's Need are my favorite books hands down. I re-read them at least once a year. Last re-read was Oct 2011. It is good to find a place where others express thier love of the books.
