Dumb Funny "Facts" in Articles

Post by Vraith »

Some things just crack me up yet annoy me, too even...maybe especially...when they really don't matter.

Recently saw mention of a crazy rollercoaster drop. It literally defies space and geometry! 120degrees!
Really? Cuz 90 degrees is straight down...you can't get steeper than that.
Sure, you can measure the other direction and CALL it 120, that's like calling the 3degrees grade on a road a 177degrees climb [or drop]...OOOOHHH! scary!

Post yours, make me laugh.

Maybe the incline is at 30 degrees, then the drop is straight down, which would make it a 120 degree angle.

Why is there braille on the drive up ATM?
Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?
Why are there locks on the doors of the 24 hour convenience store?

As for the angle... perhaps the drop was inverted?

This article from the local paper last month made me laugh.
A 5-year-old girl was swimming in the four-foot section of the pool while eating grapes. She had a squirt gun and was playing with it by spraying an adult. The adult turned his head to avoid being sprayed. When the adult turned back, the child was at the bottom of the pool.

She was pulled out of the pool and resituated.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I know it's okay to do so but I personally hate it when they say "people got evacuated". To me it either sounds like giving them enemas or - even worse - disembowl them. (in this sense you may well evacuate a zombie in a splatter movie). Call me old fashiened, but to me buildings and areas get evacuated and not peoploe.

Faroe, not Faeroe. But obviously that's not what you posted the image for - I'm stumped.

Tell me about it. There's a site here that makes a running joke of all the copy errors on one of our main news sites.

Let me try and explain this one.

A drive way is the way to where you drive, AKA a ROUTE TO DRIVING, a parkway is a way to where you park, AKA A ROUTE TO PARKING.

Not so backwards as you might think, we Americans are.

How will dog owners the world over cope? We NEED the New York Times desperately.

But once my dog goes, I don't give a f**k. Unless the web gets destroyed by a virus.
