Happy Thanksgiving!!

Post by deer of the dawn »

Today I am thankful for my husband, son, and daughter; for my work, for the delightful weather, for good friends, mostly good health; for my favorite songs, a good laugh, the Watch, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving. ~H.U. Westermayer

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Remember God's bounty in the year. String the pearls of His favor. Hide the dark parts, except so far as they are breaking out in light! Give this one day to thanks, to joy, to gratitude! ~Henry Ward Beecher
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle. -Philo of Alexandria

Happy Thanksgiving!!! :D

Xar got here a little before 8:00 last night. He did the drive in very good time.

Been doing some cooking this morning. We'll head to my MIL's in a few hours. I'll have pictures, chronicling Xar's first Thanksgiving. Hard to imagine someone who never had pumpkin pie!

May the blessing of light be on you - light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine on you like a great peat fire,
so that stranger and friend may come and warm himself at it.
And may light shine out of the two eyes of you,
like a candle set in the window of a house,
bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm.

And may the blessing of the rain be on you,
may it beat upon your Spirit and wash it fair and clean,
and leave there a shining pool where the blue of Heaven shines,
and sometimes a star.

And may the blessing of the earth be on you,
soft under your feet as you pass along the roads,
soft under you as you lie out on it, tired at the end of day;
and may it rest easy over you when, at last, you lie out under it.
May it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be out from under it quickly; up and off and on its way to G-d.

And now may the L-rd bless you, and bless you kindly. Amen.

~Traditional Scot blessing.

May you all be blessed with things to be grateful for this joyous day.

Happy Thanksgiving, one and all. Even if you live in another country and don't care.

In the year 1621, the Pilgrims held their first Thanksgiving feast. They invited the great Indian chief Massasoit, who brought ninety of his brave Indians and a great abundance of food. Governor William Bradford and Captain Miles Standish were honored guests. Elder William Brewster, who was a minister, said a prayer that went something like this: 'We thank God for our homes and our food and our safety in a new land. We thank God for the opportunity to create a new world for freedom and justice."

Xar's first Thanksgiving went pretty well. Unfortunately, I didn't make the corn pudding. :( Dinner was earlier than expected, so I didn't have time to make it. Ah well. Still, he enjoyed the food. He liked pumpkin pie. However, I also made pecan pie, with golden syrup instead of karo, and that was so freaky good the pumpkin pie was not as important. So here's some pix.

Hope you all enjoyed yourselves. (No wonder we were so quiet over the last 24.)

I'm thankful for my hubby, my kiddoes, and math tutoring work.
I'm thankful for indoor heating and for our little car, that gets us where we're goin', and that we even got to our extended family at all this year. (hit a deer carcass otw. it was hard as a rock. minimal damage, though.)
I'm thankful for my church in spite of all its imperfections, the youth of our church, intelligent and hilarious.

I'm thankful for my hubby's extended family - people with whom I automatically feel like I'm "at home" with, and whom we can safely talk like nerds around, and who even gently train me to be a little more socially-competent with wit and wisdom.

We went down to my hubby's mother's side of the family - she has 5 siblings and their families are pretty much amaaazing. Never had those kinds of family get-togethers growing up, but I'm lovin' it now.

Oh, btw, enjoyin' your poetry DPJ. 8) That one was perfect!
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor

"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."
