Favorite Christmas Presents

Post by Zarathustra »

So, whatcha get? What's your favorite? This year, my favorite was an Akio Hattori Katana. I tried unsuccessfully to post a picture, but the link will show that it's a badass, combat-ready samurai sword. The Darksword Armory website states:
The Katanas, forged by Hattori and his staff, are individually handmade. The Katana blades are forged with 1095 High Carbon Steel and can either be ordered Tempered, at a Rockwell of 55, or in traditional fashion, Clay Tempered (on order basis for the time being).

The battle ready katanas in our Standard line as offered here on our website are made with a balance in mind, between practicality and aesthetics. We requested that they be made in such a way that they would be highly functional at home, in the dojo for practical use, during cutting tests and performances, or as a highly attractive wall decoration. The blades on the Hattori katanas are razor sharp and ready to cut out of the box.

Model 2200:
Hand Forged. 1095 High Carbon Steel Blade.
Tempered to a Rockwell of 55.
Hand sharpened with Japanese whetsone, to a razor sharp edge.
Tsuka: Genuine Ray Skin wrapped handle.
Hand polished wood Saya with Mother-of-Pearl inlay
Success will be my revenge -- DJT

I got Rocksmith, which I'm chatting about my limited time with it in Video Games.

I also got the 40th anniversary limited edition Willy Wonka blu-ray spectacular spectacular double happy with lots of goodies yippeeyow set. Lots of fun, but I've plowed through almost all it has to offer except for the commentary and the making book that it came with.

I also got Uncharted 3, that I'm staying up too late playing when I can, but have really been enjoying.

I got Batten The Hatches from Jenny Owen Youngs, who I've been wanting to hear more than the one song I love from her. I've almost done with the initial listen, and so far it feels a bit uneven, but that's because I'm listening to it at random times in the car, so I can't give a fair assesment yet, but I am enjoying it.

I got a yarn bowl. Mine looks almost exactly like the one at the link. 8)

Oh, and I also got a bunch of Amazon giftcards from the folks I work for, with which I bought a new computer.

the GF got me a survival bracelet! Turns into 14 feet of parachute cord (550 lb test). Great to match the Swiss Army Knife I always have on me. :D

(not the real pic, but pretty close. mine is olive green.)

Thanks for the thread, Z!

My fave gift was a nerf gun... oh, wait, those were for my kids. On Christmas day around here, you'd never know.

Well, I got a necklace with a tiny blue sapphire-like heart. The thing that's great is my hubby has been on a quest to find a piece of jewelry that I'd like, and finally decided to just take me with to Wal-mart and have me pick something out. It worked, and was a nice experience. =)

I second Av's sword-envy! ...hrmm, when I say it that way, it sounds kinda awkward...

Anyways... Z, are you going to use it / practice with it, or have it mostly for display?

That advertising-copy made me chuckle... because I imagined an animation of the thing cutting a hole in the box and leaping out...

cooool, balon. to me, it looks like the picture of it is of it on top of a giant metal replica of a grenade... wild.

atomic- hilarious shirt! Who woulda thunken that barium, cobalt, and nitrogen, together could make...?!?!?!?

I got a Kindle! And it fits in my pocket! It's a lot easier than carrying books around, even though it doesn't smell as good as paper.

Your GF is cool. I heard about those a while back and have been wanting to add one to my survival kit.
