trying to get a resume updated and sent out TODAY - while also doing everything else I want to - so slightly frazzled! excited about various things though...
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor
"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."
-Elisabeth Elliot, Preface, "A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael"

Cameraman Jenn wrote: I'm in hoping mode, I updated and prettied up my resume today because for the first time in over a year there are service writer jobs showing up in job searches in SF. I just sent my resume to SF Hyundai and SF Nissan. Cross your fingers everyone. I miss the auto world something fierce.

That's the crux of my 'what am I doing with my career?' issues - my former industry is fading out of existence. The world has moved on. And I'm stuck looking at the past with my typical failures in perspective. I need to move on. Easier said than done.
I've done things like that in the past. Nowadays, I don't know. It could be interesting.Linna Heartlistener wrote:So, since you've started writing again... I'm curious... how do you respond to dares?
(Or CJ, maybe you could answer this? Twisted Evil )
Specifically... what if I were to make a small dare, involving... say, the... Hall of Gifts?!
Good luck with your resume-related endeavors.

I feel great and a bit guilty. We had a customer just give us a nice laptop because he broke the dvd player and didn't want to fix it and so instead bought a new laptop. I asked if I could have it with BGB in mind since his computer has been broken for a while now. My nemesis Derek was totally ok with me having it and offered to clean out the guys old files and so forth. I was grateful. Derek went beyond and not only cleaned everything out, he updated the operating system, installed microsoft office, adobe and kaspersky internet security and antivirus, cleaned the computer physically inside and out AND replaced the dvd player with one from another old laptop he had lying around. Now it's completely refurbished and online even though it's only three years old and discontinued, the refurbished models are going for around $550. Granted, Derek felt really bad about being wrong in his theory that my old broken screen mac would work with the screen detatched so his operation on that one essentially killed a working mac in the sense that if I had just plugged in a monitor without trying to remove the screen it would have worked fine. And he killed the screen plug so that it couldn't ever be plugged in again so he was feeling guilty about the utter death of the titanium G4 and wanted to make it up to me, the fact is that I hadn't even powered up that old mac in over a year and was only going to do the monitor thing so that BGB could have that one so it wasn't that important to me that he killed it utterly dead. Anyways, I digress...
Derek told me yesterday that he couldn't fix that toshiba to buy himself more time and I was feeling frustrated and disappointed so when I came in today and he was all eager to please puppy mode and couldn't wait to show me his surprise at how well he had fixed the computer for me, I felt really happy to the point that I spontaneously hugged him and HE LET ME! He's very non huggy. Then I felt bad that I've been so teasing mean to him so much in the past.
Granted our nemesis status has been greatly reduced in past months but still it's really an amazing feeling when the person you least expect to do something nice for you does something so extremely nice and is all happy to surprise you when you least expect it is a great way to restore one's faith in humanity. AND, (Sorus, you know this especially,) if any one had told me that I would be so happy with Derek that I would spontaneously hug him and he would be happy enough to eagerly hug me back for having made me that happy I would have called them a crazy liar and told them that hell would have to have frozen over tenfold first.
So, I gave it to BGB tonight and he's thrilled. Granted he has to learn pc vs. mac but hey, free computer valued at $550 when he's had no computer is a win win win situation. Therefore I am overflowing with mass amounts of good karma so I am sending it out to you guys. Thank you guys for being there for me for all my whinging and so forth. I appreciate it and I hope that tomorrow each and every one of you experiences a random act of kindness or good karmic cycle.

sorus... niice. So what're ya writing? (at least somethin' you're up for sharing about it... prose? does it fit in a general genre?)

I got more good karma today. Our new regional manager was visiting today and I wasn't in yet but I got informed by more than one person about my copy center getting large format machines. There was an intense discussion of how to make it work and I was also told that a different store is wanting to get rid of theirs since they hardly use it and that the new RM was already talking to that store on the phone about their equipment. Looks like my wish is going to be fulfilled. Sorus said something to me today that made me think. I was telling her about the large format stuff and excited and then I said that I knew it was stupid for me to get all excited about copy center stuff but then Sorus said that it was much better to be excited about your job or parts of your job than to not be excited about it. She's absolutely right. Even though I am not doing exactly what I want to be doing, at least I can make the most of what I have and that IS a good thing.
Also, update on Mrs. Null. Surgery went well, she's already out of recovery and awake so YAY!!!!

I had a super day yesterday. As Jenn says, "I rocked out!"
I got my resume off... my husband was gonna check it, but he was still asleep so I messaged my bro-in-law asking him to check it (he worked for a tutoring company for a long time!) and mailed it off.
I played with my kids.
I tutored one of my students, and interrupted our session several times to talk about strategy/issues with this class. Turned out he hadn't realized that ...the way the different tests, etc were weighted meant he was WAY more on a knife-edge than he thought. After we had THAT discussion, he was galvanized with a sense of purpose. I coulda done some things better, but it was really great.

I have two main projects, one I have been working on for... 21 years, come next month. It's a part of me, for better or for worse, and writing it usually comes as naturally as breathing. The dry spell I've had for the past few months is unnatural and disturbing. The second is more recent, and it's a world born of shards from a broken poem. Both would be science fiction as a general genre.Linna Heartlistener wrote:sorus... niice. So what're ya writing? Seriously, GUUURRLLL, they are awesome and I think Sorus is going to be jealous when she sees mine with the subtle bling. I'll bring a camera on Monday and have one of my co-workers take a pic of Sorus and I modeling them as requested. Sorus, they are super soft and stretchy and she made them all fancy and cable knit. They are also WARM! Snuggly wuggly wanna bury your face in them and grin idiotically type snuggly wuggly. I think it's the strands of love she knitted into them that is the best feature of all. You will understand when you get them.

Mmm, not cabled. Ribbed.
Sorus, seriously, don't worry about wrecking them. And you don't need to send me anything -- I just want you guys to be comfy. It sucks to be cold at work.
