Don't think I've ever actually riveted anything.

The thin part gets pulled through, expanding that sleeve right? *shrug* Can't expand that much.

You would be surprised based on the inner curvature of the rivet sleeve. We used them a lot when I still had a decent job in automotive. Rivets of all sorts from plastic to metal. Damn I miss automotive. Come to think of it, I think my MacGyver skills pursuit is a way to fulfill my lack of complicated tool use. Yes, I use my hands and tools in the copy center especially when I bind projects or mount posters and what not but it's just not the same.

Hmm...you could propose an option be added for rivet-binding. Heck, all kinds of custom wood/leather/metalwork covers/bindings for security and artistic purposes...

We don't offer those sorts of products through the OD so it's not an option. I would have to do that on the side and it would be a conflict of interest with the office depot job I currently hold and therefore easily get me fired.

Very nice Balon. Very nice indeed.

Always considered the fire drill to be the most effective way of starting a fire. (If you have to do it manually.) Definitely a useful skill.

I keep a lens in my bag, but obviously it's not always practical.

I have to learn to setup a drupal production server for many sites. I had tried with mamp before, now there is a better option, I guess. I hate this sort of thing!

I joke, yes they are awesome, and everybody who wanders round the bush should have one. But you should still know how to do it without, in case it gets lost or forgotten or whatever.

I need to learn how someone used a Google Gadget to set up group email forwarding from a Gmail account. (Maybe created it?) And learn who is the "administrator" of the account (probably the same person).

So now that I'm a ways in to 2012, it looks like my skills for this year don't include really learning any Chinese.

OTOH, it looks like I have been learning:
* How to negotiate with potential (tutoring) clients.
(something I've usually avoided with a passion)
* How to break problem-solving into several reliable steps for a student.

..and, umm, darnit, something else that was more inspiring, I think.

I've pulled the guitar out a couple of times, but I haven't really concentrated on it. It will be easier (she claims) after Magickmaker moves out. I'm thinking of setting up a little music corner in the living room, with a nice music stand, the guitar, and the flute stand (which I made my ownself

If I understand correctly, you just want the emails from one Gmail account forwarded to many others?

As for being on topic, well, I learned a lot recently, actually better knowledge of mailing tricks is on the list)

It'a set of tools for web-site development that helps to work offline.

Stuff from the craft store: a round wooden "plaque" about 6 inches in diameter and some 1/4-inch-diameter dowel rods. I've got C, D and Bb whistles, a PVC simple system flute in D (that I can't really play because my hands are too small

"Simple system" means there aren't any keys -- just holes, like a recorder. One of these days when I have a spare $400 or so, I'd like to get a D flute from this guy who makes them for small-handed people.

I played clarinet for many years, so the recorder was easy to pick up. The whistle is, too, except that in Irish trad music there's a lot of ornamentation that you just sort of throw in when the mood strikes you, and I've never learned how to do that. (Another thing for the "someday" list....)

It's a cms (content management system) for making various kind of interactive websites and so. It's open source platform and has a lot of addons to pretty much add any advanced functionality to a site.

Does discovering skills we never knew we had count? Not sure how useful my new found skill is but I can apparently picture an animal in my head and then cut out a seriously realistic silouehette of it out without any further guidance. Just a piece of paper and scissors.
