When I come out of a depression, it is usually because I start looking forward to the future. When I am depressed, everything always looks so hopeless. When I have something to look forward to, I start feeling better.

Without getting too deep into my madness, I may feel like I am doomed to be lonely and miserable until I die (eHarmony told me just today that there is no hope I will ever find a match), but smaller things in life give me the strength to keep moving forward. Like last week, I chose to take a vacation this week because I was ready to quit my job and my life, so I figured a break from work would give me some freedom to assess my life and what I want to do with it. Then I found out about a Tetris tournament two weeks from now (Midwest Gaming Classic). Now I am super excited about that. It doesn't fix anything for me, but I started cleaning up my house, and am feeling better.

Fuck E-harmony. E-harmony can go explore various cavities with various uncomfortably proportioned objects. Sideways.

I know next to nothing about you, Shuram, but I can say that the sense of being doomed to loneliness is one of the most pernicious illusions that depression will try to instil in you. Don't submit.

What Cambo said.

eHarmony didn't turn up anybody suitable for me, either. Then I found out it's biased toward Christianity (which I probably should have realized when I had to go three or four menus deep into the "religion" option before I found any choices that remotely resembled Pagan ). So it's very likely it's the site, and not you.

Oh, I don't care much about eHarmony. I just clicked on it because there was an ad that said it could hook me up with hot Trekker girls from my area. I filled out their survey honestly, even though I knew I should've lied through my teeth. And they didn't even ask me about Star Trek :? I was just saying that when I feel hopeless I try to focus on the smaller things that make me happy (like Tetris tournaments or fishing or whatever) which sort of helps live in the moment rather than feeling so hopeless.

There is no way to be depressed if you watch this. These guys always make me smile.

And re. being single and looking for someone. I think the cliché of being confident and happy with yourself is there for a reason. I always found confident guys the most attractive. When you know that you are the centre of the universe, other people notice and want to orbit you. Of course it is best when you are both the centre of the universe and you create a binary star system. :P

I really don't think we get rid of borderline traits, I think we learn to recognize them and manage them. Sort of add shades of gray to our black and white worlds.

I filled out that gargantuan questionnaire as well. Being the future traveler I am I put in no, none, nada restrictions on location, I selected men ages 40 - 65, any race, any religion, etc, etc. It promptly came back that there were no, none, nada men that could be matched with me. So essentially there is no middle aged man anywhere in the entire world that might be interested in me. 8O Screw 'em. (actually I guess I should say no screw 'em)

8O Oh, no. I'm SOL  Unless Tetris is sexier than I think it is :?

And regarding eHarm...I guess it is easier to have a high success of matchmaking when you very carefully only allow a very select group of people with very particular criteria join?

Somewhere, suprisingly close by, is a girl who finds proficiency at old school handheld games irresistible.

And she will be of legal age in less than 4 years! :P

We had a client who ran a gold digger service. She charged 20k usd to the wealthy men for her service and matched them with educated model types usually in their 20s.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

I went to the loo at my brother's house on the weekend and noticed a little quote that I thought worth sharing:
Now and then it's good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.

Yeah, I like that. People spend too much time worrying about being happy. Being happy is actually a relatively modern phenomenon y'know.

Stop worrying about it and start being it.
