let's make sure our children never learn how to cope with loss of any kind.

What rubbish. If children don't learn to cope with the smaller disappointments, how on earth are they going to survive the bigger ones? It's like stopping children compete, so that there are no losers! :-x

That flushing sound you hear is society going down the tubes.

That last one made me smile. I grew up in the midwest, where the greeting was a handshake for everyone. I now live on the border of Mexico where the hug/air kiss is the normal for greetings involving women (with man or woman) and a hard hand-smack shoulder bump hug among men.

While I am not in favor of public groping by anyone, it seems to me that these decisions should be left to the individuals and understanding of context is everything. A hug to a person whose dog just died is different than between two hormonal teenagers.

But that is best decided with all information at hand, not a blanket policy.

It's not only ridiculous, it's unenforceable.

The craziest part is that a whole group of people thought this was a good idea that embodied the proper purview of institutions of the state.

The no bff rule is way more stupid than the no hugging one. Both are pretty ridiculous though.

Because god forbid they should ever suffer any sort of harm whatsoever. Anyway, the world will never allow them to come to harm, if they do, it must be somebodies fault.

This is a great idea! Also, I hope the kids get assigned numbers in school- It is no good when some have a better sounding name than some others. If they all get referred to only as numbers, it will be much better.

But what about the kids who get lower numbers? You don't want them to feel worthless. Lets just call them all "Boy" and "Girl" and be done with it.

...Wait a minute, that highlights gender differences and potentially leads to reinforcing gender stereotypes. Back to good old reliable "Hey, you".

What if they don't like their numbers. Like what about kid number 13 or 666? What if some kids have cooler numbers than others, like triple primes, or Fibonaccis? What about the kid named number 2, is he cursed for life or what?

Introduce Finnish as the official teaching language. We don't nurture such nonsense as separate pronouns for 'he' and 'she'. ;)

A lovely idea, Zorm!

But I'm afraid there are many people who have problems learning one language remotely properly.

Why don't we use "it" as the gender definition for everyone? ;)

It's a stupid idea, but I'm a little suspicious about the story from the Daily Mail since I noticed no one in the story actually owning up to advocating doing this.
