So, they cut my hours right after saying they weren't going to cut my hours. Yay, work. I feel more worthless than I have ever felt before in my life. Also haven't slept in 3 days, which probably doesn't help.
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

Sorus, you are the furthest thing from worthless. I'm not a huggy person but for you.....Sorus wrote:So, they cut my hours right after saying they weren't going to cut my hours. Yay, work. It took me many years to realize that work does not define me (actually I am not quite there yet

I come from a family of huge over achievers. Super scientists, opera singers, famous actors, government commissioners, etc. I felt all my life like I had to bring my resume to every family function. It was never enough and I felt I could never make my father proud. (My mother didn't give a crap about that stuff.)
I also had no life outside of work. This continues to be a problem for me. I have devoted so much of my energy and self to work that I've lost myself. When I hit 40 and had not had children, which I wanted with every breath, I felt less and less of a person of value. In order to avoid dealing with my sadness about not having kids I poured all that into the job. So when the job went downhill, I went along with it.
All I can say Sorus, is fight the urge to denigrate yourself. It isn't easy, but try to remember you have value.
The loudest truth I ever heard was the softest sound.

Thanks, Lorin. That's what I keep trying to tell myself, but it's hard to hear over the voice in the back of my head that's screaming that I'm failing at life. And it's hard to say that I'm not failing at life when I'm not making enough money to exist and can't even get a bloody interview anywhere else. I don't know what to do. I will probably have to give up internet access next month.

Why don't you let me look at your resume? I do about 15 a week and they are pretty good (if I'd say so myself) Done four for members here.Sorus wrote:Thanks, Lorin. Since this is the second temp to fall off I am just going to tough it out with the snaggle looking tooth for the rest of the week.
Sorus, They cut the entire budget for the district across the board and for our store personally they cut us almost two thousand dollars to make up for the excess needed for the inventory. We are ALL taking hour cuts this week and next week. All of management is cut at least one day and Kin is using two vacation days so we could give the associates as many hours as we can. Almost all the part time associates have been cut back to a range of 16 to 19 hours. Out of the ENTIRE STAFF, YOU GOT CUT THE LEAST with Gerard a close second place. The only reason Caitlin got 22 and Noe got 20 is so they can cover CPD when I take my own hour cut. We are STILL over our alloted budget by 40 hours and are running at a seriously bare bones schedule. Once we get through these next two weeks we should be back to a more normal budget and your hours will go right back to normal. If you want to use some of your saved pto to make up for the couple of hours cut that's entirely doable as earned vacation pay is already "paid" and doesn't count towards scheduled hours. You are SO NOT worthless.
I'm also living an extra three days without a temporary cap because management hours have been cut so slim that I can't possibly see Dr. Berd the day my permanent teeth arrive so I have to wait until Saturday.
Oh, totally forgot to mention that Elaine works a second job at the restaurant next door and she was telling me that one of her co-workers was giving her the second degree about the girl in the copy and print center and since he was a much younger guy she assumed he meant Caitlin but then late in the conversation she clarified and turns out he was asking about me. Caitlin has long brown hair and brown eyes so his description of me as the smaller shorter haired girl with the green eyes has to be me although Caitlin and I are about the same height and we wear the same size clothes so I'm not sure where the smaller part comes from. I have NO IDEA which guy from the restaurant she is talking about though. I'm flattered anyway although if I can't imagine the guy it probably means I'm not interested.

lorin pretty much said what I was going to say... I remember the first time I felt I had failed big-time. I felt about 1 1/2 inches tall, like a complete waste of protoplasm. Then I read a couple of stories about people who did lots of failing. Read about Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln, even Joan Jett.... those guys failed miserably, until they succeeded big-time. Because they didn't give up.
The person who holds the record for pitching the most perfect games in baseball (sorry, not a sports buff so his name escapes me) ALSO happens to be the person who holds the world's record for losing the most games. He just pitched lots and lots of games and didn't give up.
So, to quote Winston Churchill, "Never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never give up."

There is only one failure in life that is of any significance and that is if you fail as a human being. The rest is just icing.Sorus wrote:Thanks, Lorin. That's what I keep trying to tell myself, but it's hard to hear over the voice in the back of my head that's screaming that I'm failing at life.
Stop beating yorself up over things that you can do nothing about and concentrate on the things you can. You are in danger of letting your negativity become the biggest hurdle that you have to overcome - it will sap the strength you need to make the changes ahead.
I'm not a massively religiuos man but there is sense in some of what the bible says. I offer the following:-
Consider the lilies of the fields; they reap not neither do they sow, yet Soloman in all his glory was not arrayed as one of these. Therefor take no thought for the morrow for the morrow will take thought enough unto itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereoff.

I had an odd day. Lots of weirdos but the crowning glory was the shockingly annoying diva princess I had to deal with. I'll post the details in my blog. Wow. Just WOW! Seriously though, my Dad would have smacked me from here to the Ukraine if I acted like that.

What Jenn said.
Have we heard from Hashi? He lives around there, too, doesn't he? Haven't been to the Tank yet -- he might be fine. Just musing about Texas Watchers. I think Doctor Gamgee is in Texas too, but I think he's farther south.
Survived the 90-minute class on Word Basics this morning. Learned nothing new. Sigh.
Also, The Lady Morgana had her teeth cleaned this morning. The vet had to pull two. Not sure how much it's going to cost, but I already know we're talking hundreds of dollars.
I'll find out tonight when I pick her up.

Blimey! Texas must be a big place. If we drove 5-6 hours from here we'd nearly be in the sea at the top of Scotlandsgt.null wrote:i am 5-6 hours from Dallas and had no worries.

Glad you're safe, Sarge. Sad others aren't.
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

It was a scary day yesterday. Watching the storms on TV off and on and knowing the line of storms was moving east.
And then, like a dummy, I had the phone out in the front yard during a conference call peering at the sky. Neighbors had just arrived next door from some errand was explaining that they had seen a tornado. He was pointing off in the distance and I decided to go take a look. About then, I heard it coming and high tailed it back inside. Within 30 seconds the power was off. Long story short, the worst we had was that parts of the neighbor's carport from across the street was in our front yard. This tornado proceeded across the highway near us and about a mile and a half away did some heavy damage to multiple homes. One home had only one part of one wall left standing. No serious injuries here in Forney, thank God.
And in an unrelated event today a house burned down just 3 blocks down the side around noon today. Everyone got out safely.
That's enough excitement for a while.

Glad you're safe!

If I got in the car and drove to the far southwestern corner of Virginia, it would take me about eight hours. And that's just one state -- and not a terribly big one, at that.
