:D
Another new member. I'm only here to find out where I get the e-books. I may hang about a bit but really I just want to know how to get hold of the e-books. It's April 2012 where are they.

Helloo! Wayfriend bought all copies when they came out so he could corner the market on reselling them. Now you have to go to www.wayfriendsbargainbooksforsaleandnot ... natall.com to get them.

Be Welcome to the Watch, bazza.
Be Well Come and True.

Someone here will probably have answers for you, in addition to Ananda's response. But don't be a stranger. Look around and post. We're a pretty friendly bunch.

Don't blame me - Amazon only prints a limited number of ebooks.

Hello Bazza

Could someone enlighten me? I thought an ebook was just a download, so there only ever need be one for many people to download. Or do you mean that there are only a few books available as ebooks? :?

It was a joke. Ebooks are potentially infinitely available. I just wanted to blame Wayfriend over something. :D

Thanks, Ananda, I did wonder, and I guessed that your comment about Wayfriend was a joke as the link didn't work - yes I actually tried it

I just wasn't sure what an ebook actually was, having never tried one.

Ananda's been mad at me ever since I crushed her in The Person Above You Game.

.... but seriously, people are wondering where the e-books are and no one's heard any word about them.

Y'all probably already know there is an e-book for AATE out, right? According to my library website, there is a Kindle version, an Adobe EPUB version, and a pdf version available to download.

I do not know if the links will work without going through a library website first though...

Those are for borrowing a copy of the book. If you want to own a copy, you can buy it through the usual place you would buy ebooks for your device (Kindle Store for Kindles, Nook Store for Nooks, iBooks for the iPad, etc.). And yes, all of the Last Chrons (that have been released so far) are available as e-books -- as are the GAP books and the mysteries.

More detail

Post by bazza14 »

OK I'll be more specific I want the first and second chronicles. Here's an excerpt form the authors website.

I've just signed contracts that allow Random House (owner of DEL REY/Ballantine) to publish "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever," "The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant," and "Mordant's Need" as e-books.

Normally this process would take 3 or 6 or 9 or even 12 months: Random House is a huge company, and the queue of physical books awaiting conversion is long. However, I've made the situation more complicated (and therefore more time-consuming? Maybe, maybe not). Because Random House (owner of SPECTRA/Bantam) did such a shoddy job with the original e-publication of the GAP books, I've attached an amendment to the contract requiring Random House to start with Word DOC files which I will provide. In other words, Random House has agreed NOT to use their normal scan/OCR/proofread-in-India procedure for preparing e-books. Of course, this puts the burden on me to supply clean texts. But better that than a repetition of the GAP debacle.

I have already delivered clean texts for LORD FOUL'S BANE, THE ILLEARTH WAR, and THE POWER THAT PRESERVES. If my support staff continues to function steadily (I really do not have time to do all the work myself), I should be able to deliver a subsequent volume every 6-8 weeks. So: once the first trilogy has been released (early April 2012, or so I've been led to believe), the later books should follow at roughly two-month intervals.
So it's April 2012, any of you folks know where to get them from?

As wayfriend's link above to aliantha's post quoting the same post includes...
SRD wrote:Unless (he said shamelessly) poor sales persuade Random House to push my books back in the queue.
So, while early April was the expected date, it is up to the publisher to get them out. This post was put up in December of last year. SRD says it could take as long as a year, although he was led to believe it would be April. Sounds like there is no guarantee of a release date though, especially since he attached an amendment to the contract requiring different processing of how it is done.

I guess we'll see them when we see them.

Actually his change makes it easier for Random House. Instead of going through the usual scan pages - OCR - proof read and correct sequence he has supplied them with ready to go text files.

 Sarge is worried you'll overtake him.

Re your comment about SRD providing them clean files and that supposedly making it easier to get the e-books published: You would think so, wouldn't you? I mean, any idiot can stop by Kindle Direct Publishing, upload an ebook file, and be a published author inside of 12 hours (and I'm living proof! ). Alas, this is the Traditional Publishing World we're talking about here; their wheels grind slowly, and it is not for mere mortals to question their reasons. </snark>

Which is to say, Menolly's right -- we'll see 'em when we see 'em. Unfortunately. :(

Hello, bazza14 If I may ask, why don't you have a look at some more things on the Watch? There are in-depth discussions, analysis of the text, thoughts on interesting details in the Chronicles and much more - definitely more than just information about the e-books. Hope you see that and stay) :bestwishes:

With a name like 'Bazza', I'd say he's a traveler from the mythical dimension of Oz!

(Bazza, to explain that, there is a long-standing belief here at the Watch that Austraya does not exist.)
