What is the appeal of Pinterest? Anybody here have a board or whatever they're called?

As a not-very-visual person, I personally don't get the appeal of posting pictures with links to other stuff on the web. But I'm willing to reconsider, if somebody has a better explanation...

I'm not sure.
It's weird.
There's no original content just links to content they like.
It's almost what Facebook should be, where people you think you like share actual information rather than "I went on a boat today. It was fun". or a picture of a boat but no description. lol

Pintrest is all information.
I'm a big Halloween nut.
the people I follow on Pintrest are too.
They all share links to interesting things.

I like it but I haven't used it much yet.

Lots of people I know love Pinterest. I created an account, but haven't really used it much yet, to be perfectly honest. I thought I might use it for my volunteer work, but it's one more thing that takes up my time and no time to figure it out.

I downloaded the app to my iPad a couple of weeks ago and requested an invite. As far as I know, they havent gotten back to me.

Pinterest is sharing pretty pictures and/or ideas. Oftentimes the picture will have a link of a how-to, or a link as to where you can buy the particular product. I'm a bridesmaid in an upcoming friend's wedding and found tons of bridesmaid dresses through pinterest alone. I also find lots of crafty ideas to do with my son now that school is out. And food ideas!

Julie is on there. she gets all sorts of craft ideas. and home stuff. she now makes her own laundry soap out of a combination of other soaps. saves money in th elong run.

I have an account, but don't use it.

It's enjoyed a sudden boom of popularity because it appears that Google is considering links from Pintrest as valuable when determining search engine rankings, so now everybody wants links from it.

Once it's been spammed enough, they'll start discounting them and everybody will lose interest.

Anybody wants an invite, I can send them too (if I can remember my log in).

You sure it's not the other way round - google rank it high because it's being linked to/from a lot?

Well, it's almost a chicken / egg thing. The fact that it's being used a lot caused Google to increase the value of its links, which increase prompted more people to decide they wanted links from it.

This social shit is really screwing up the internet.
