For the simple reason that no one saw it coming!

I appear to be sensitive to the skins and sometimes the pits when the mangos are fresh off the tree. I don't have a reaction to eating the fruit. And I don't seem to have a reaction to mangos that have been in the fridge for a while. Maybe the uroshiol (the chemical that causes rashes from mangos, poison ivy, etc.) breaks down over time once the fruit is picked.

We told the owner of the company I am working on a website for that it would be done by tomorrow. Tonight, I ran into a major problem. Will be working most of the night, I think. It is 00.30 already and the end is not nigh. :(

Ananda, good luck to you. Work at night is :hithead:

As for the separate topic for the Mallory's war - there's quite a different reason for that. I think nearly nobody will read the old 200+ pages of this thread, and those posts will be lost. Also, in a separate thread some people may feel more free to comment. So, either move - the first ones are already quite far, or, if there are no objections, those posts may be copied - F5 instead of F6. And, of course, the photo should be posted, large and high-quality

We get a massage therapist in to the office twice a month, everybody gets the treatment of their choice, and lunch at least twice a month, sometimes more. :D

A little tired. I've somehow managed to stay up until midnight three nights in a row when I'm getting up at 6am.

Viewing some flats after work today. I like the area, the properties are right up at the high end of what I could get a mortgage for, though (which still isn't all that high).

MsMary, I think the sap that comes out of very fresh mangoes may also be a culprit. The only reaction I get is when I pick or peel fresh mangoes, and don't scrub under my wedding ring. Then I can't wear the dang rings for a few days. The rash is exactly like poison ivy, which I am deadly allergic to. But if I don't handle the skins too much I'm fine too.

Speaking of food... My hubby's 50th birthday was yesterday. I made a chocolate and a vanilla cake, and there were no leftovers (Nigerians really know how to eat!!). Today I made a coconut cream pie for a July 4th picnic the Americans are having tonight. (No fireworks-- people would think it was bombs or gunfire and a riot would ensue!!) 8O

8O Oh Dear God no, does this mean you may be unavailable as a candidate for Mallory's most-intellectual game GTNP!!!???

Oh well, I guess it's too late to talk you out of it so I best wish you good luck in the new job. Good luck in the new job!

Right, it is the sap. Which contains uroshiol, the same thing that causes a rash in poison ivy, poison oak, and the like. So if you have a reaction to poison ivy, you will have the reaction you described with mangos.

I read that if you don't wash it off with soap and water within 10 minutes, it's already absorbed into your skin and it's too late. So I've been obsessively washing my hands after handling mangos. :P

Not sure what I will do today - am making a mango crisp, which involved peeling and cutting at least 5-6 mangos. Wash after each mango? ;) We'll see. :)

Jeeze I have a new addiction. Quibids. For years I thought those penny auction sites were a scam. In the last month I have had a huge success on it.
I did a LOT of research and planning before I started and have to admit I have done very well. A lot of strategizing. So far I've won 6 $25 dollar gas cards for under a dollar each. And yes I received them. They charge 1.99 delivery and handling. I won 3 $50 Walmart gift cards. I don't shop there so I will give them as Christmas gifts. Each was under 5 bucks. Last night I got a Samsung Wifi camera $159 retail, I got it for $7 dollars plus delivery.

I've lost about 5 auctions but they have a feature called Buy Now. So they will apply your lost bets to the retail cost of the item. So I am careful not to attempt to get anything I wasn't planning to buy retail.

BUT let me tell you, there are A LOT of stupid people bidding on the site that are losing their shirts.
The loudest truth I ever heard was the softest sound.

I will have my apartment to myself again shortly. 8) Batty and Shara_Lunison were both here for a few days. They left right after lunch today. Magickmaker came over for lunch and is still here. She is apparently coming down with a cold, so she napped away the afternoon and is now muttering imprecations at my yarn winder and swift while trying to wind a new ball of yarn. Hopefully she won't break or or more of them before she's through. 8O

Batty will be back Monday for another dentist appointment. That should give me just enough time this coming weekend to clean the place.

It was the power vacuum that you left. Murrin went mad with his new blog orientated scheme. Effy battled him furiously. Iolanthe quickly sided with Murrin, but then the Dread Poet came to Effys aid and they swashbuckled. Soon after that, Deer got pulled in, then Vraith and Doc Gamgee both tried various tricks. Aliantha was staying above the fray, but Murrin bribed her with the promise of various games about her book and she became his strong ally.

Beebs then decided to try to make a third faction, but only JasFusion sided with him. Linna then jumped in and tried to make peace, but Shaun.., you know how mean she is... broke all Linnas efforts for peace so those two got into it.

The week you were gone, I think it was 1000 new posts in mallorys and few hundreds in various other forums. Avatar tried to settle it, but he became distracted by a mirror Shaun cleverly placed before him, knowing he couldnt resist starring at the handsome bald guy starring back at him. So he was trapped. By the end, Loremaster returned and declared you were still king of mallorys and these usurpers would feel his raft. Most assumed he meant wrath, but some werent so sure and that more than anything ended the war.

Does that mean if you don't get it from mangos you won't get it from poison ivy?

(That's crazy...I love mangos...never heard of somebody getting a rash from them. :D )

On Tuesday morning I (impulse) bought a ticket to a Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer show in Edinburgh next month. Then I realised I'd have to stay the night, so started looking at my options, and of course it's only 5 weeks time and it's the middle of the festival season, so prices are sky high. Long story short, a £20 ticket to one show has wound up with me spending £300 on two nights in a hotel*, and planning to spend a bit more trying to see some of the comedy acts that are on as part of the Fringe festival.

*It was going to be £250 on two nights in two different hotels, but there was a three hour gap between check out and check in right when I want to go see an act.

Yeah but look at this way, you're going to see Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer! Saw them at the Sydney Opera House last year (think it was last year). Great fun show. And you get to see some of the Fringe Festival. And you're living in the moment, full of spontaneity.

So... how did the hunt for flats go by the way? Or can you no longer afford them? :P ;)
