Having not read the second one yet, I am surprised. Is this just the book blogger's opinion, or do you as the author feel that your intent would not be compromised by reading the books out of sequence?
What the nice lady said was that she herself read them out of order, and she complimented me specifically on writing enough of an introduction (that's what she called it; what she meant was sort of a "what has gone before", but within the text of the novel) in book 2 that she didn't feel lost.
As the author, I conceived of an overall story arc for the series. So the books build on one another. But I'm also trying to write them so that if someone picks up book 3, say, without realizing there was a book 1 and 2 (altho the person would have to be pretty dense, since they all say "book X" on the cover in 18-pt. Gabriola

), they can enjoy the story without being lost for the first third of the book. Because I'm pretty sure, tho I haven't tried to scientifically prove it, that urban fantasy readers don't have the same sort of patience as, say, Malazan fans.
SD, if you wouldn't mind, after you and Dam-sel have read book 2, please let me know if you think I put in *too much* info about book 1, to the point that you were bored and wanted to skip ahead. It's a fine line, I think, and I think I did it okay. But I'd appreciate confirmation.
