I really don't know how you do it. It takes me several weeks to read a book - an hour at night usually. Just wait till I get my kindle at Christmas - I shall have another 40 minutes reading time on the bus 3 days a week.

Practice. ;) Actually, that's not so much. It's not even 3 books a week. This last couple of months really shot my average to hell because I've been playing computer games a lot more than usual.

Well, you are reading a lot of non-fiction lately. I seem to slow down quite a bit when I read non-fiction, for some reason.

Most of my reading is non-fiction these days, but my son asked me this afternoon what I wanted for Christmas so I immediately said "Daughter of Regals" so I shall have some fiction for Christmas as well as the book on William the Conquerer that my daughter is buying me. :D

Well... now I need to decide next year's goal... somewhere between what I have read this year and 100 books... I want to push myself, but I also want to achieve my goal! I am currently thinking of setting the goal at 75 books next year for myself...

deer of the dawn wrote:I was slowed down by re-reading the 1st Chronicles. I "should" be at 37 books by now, and I'm only at 34. Started reading the His Dark Materials series and really enjoyed The Golden Compass. I was living under a rock in Vermont when these came out and didn't even hear of the books till the film came out. I thought it was a beautiful film (and nothing with Sam Elliott in it is ever a total loss) and liked the book even better.

Besides the books I'm reading in full, I read a lot of nonfic material for lesson preparation-- articles, sections of books, and of course the Bible, constantly. So that eats into my enjoyment-reading time as well. :P
It'll be interesting to see what you think of those. I found the second one to be the best one.
.
I think I most like the first, actually. I got annoyed when we had to hear again how the Mulefa evolved their diamond-shaped body form, yada, yada. And of course the resolution seems to be universally disliked, but overall I really loved the series and they had more than their share of unforgettable characters. :)

Congrats on finishing your challenge, O!!

This was great and I plan on reaching my goal (I'm currently reading 3 books at the same time, 1 fic and 2 nonfic) but I don't think I'll do it next year. I want to read some really thick, overly long, epic tomes. :D I may even reread the Outlander series. And I plan to reread 2 and Last Chrons of TC in anticipation of TLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a total failure, but I plan to pick up Book-A-Week again starting this week, and intend to make it through the full year. Might not get exactly on schedule, but want the number to hit 52+. (I read almost 50 this year, if you count comics.)

Well, I've managed 35 in the first 11 weeks of 2013.

Will probably slow down a bit now, given I've finished almost all of the new books I bought at the end of the last year.

Good start though.

Well it's week 11 of 2013 and I'm currently reading my 11th book, so I guess I'm right on target. Though of course I've also read a bunch of comics and a non-fiction collection which I'm not counting for some reason.

(If you count everything, which means including both the huge Bone omnibus and a bunch of slim comic volumes like Saga, among others, then the count is 19.)
