Thanks, Doc. 8) Too bad you can't sell any of that white stuff on the black market, huh? You'd make a bloody fortune.

A relative in the US decided we needed two cans of fake snow here in Africa. We're not really sure what to do with them. I guess you add water and it expands.... should be fun making the mess, anyway.

Got the Christmas Tree and other decorations up on Saturday with Deer Daughter (Fawn of the Dawn?) and it really feels like Christmas is coming now.

Posting this from the new internet connection in my flat. Cable installation guy came early (was due in afternoon), but desk hasn't arrived yet. Just met upstairs tenant for first time, seems he's new, just arriving today.

Getting some painting done in living room, but ran out of masking tape for the edges so can't go all the way to the ceiling.

I do wish my husband would use masking tape. He paints the ceiling, then the walls, then the edge of the ceiling again as bits of the wall paint have got on, then has to do the top of the wall again.....ad infinitum

Sounds like you are getting on, Murrin.

Living room all painted except for a patch where I've got condensation. (My dad brought over some spare masking tape, so I got to finish the top edge and the walls nearer where the internet stuff was set up.)

I was in the house from 8am, and the desk finally arrived at 6:15.

Yeah, I had to write that several times last week when ordering my docs for the archives tomorrow. :D

The living room. (Or one small part.) Plus the result of masking.

The colour's actually almost exactly what was on before, just slightly lighter. Had to repaint because they'd just painted over the picture hangers, leaving white patches when I took them down.

(Picture looks best/closest to reality when zoomed out.)

thanks - still managed 3 out of four days at work. really didn't put that much effort into it. when my old captain becomes my current captain i will likely have to put forth some effort at work.

At school, a Code Yellow was just called. Not a drill. Kids are locked down in classrooms till parents come pick them up. December is always a bad time for unrest. It began with a civil servants' strike, but banks and other agencies are in sympathy; protestors were teargassed yesterday in a town several miles out from Jos and in response they burned some cars... don't know why the lockdown at school but just not looking forward to closing, especially as final exams are supposed to begin tomorrow.
:( :x
Okay, apparently teargas was used about a mile away, at the State House of Assembly. So they don't want it to drift here and make the kids sick.

Sarge, feel better!

Murrin, nice painting job. And your desk delivery sounds about right.

Deer, all I can say is,

I've begun the last mad scramble to Yule. Our law firm's holiday party is tonight, then a group of friends is getting together tomorrow night. I've bowed out of Stitch & Bitch Saturday because I need to get the tree...and make the scrapbook for my friend who took me to Europe with her. I could conceivably schlep all the scrapbooking stuff to S&B (any craft is okay, not just something involving stitching), but my friend will be there and I don't want to make her gift right under her nose.... Anyway, I've also got cookies to make, and everything has to be done by Tuesday so I can take them in to work that day. I also need to finish shopping for the girls -- just gift cards, but still, I need to get 'er done.

All that, and I'm trying to make some noise for my books. I uploaded a news release to a couple of free press release distribution services last night -- since the events in the first book kick off on 12/21/12 and I just released the third book. We'll see if anybody picks it up.

But today, first, I have a doctor appointment around noon. The doc hasn't ordered blood tests but I know she's gonna want 'em, so I'm going to try to fast until then. We'll see how well this works...

So my dad has been helping with bits and pieces at the flat, mostly filling and sanding. Today was the first time he'd been involved in any painting - and I've learned that when it comes to that, he really does not care in the slightest about doing a good job, he'd just throw on a coat of paint - not bother sanding down the rough bits of the wall, do edges by hand, paint around the light fittings - and leave it like that.

So now I'm left thinking... he's not got much free time for the next week or so, and I kinda want to do everything I can to finish it all myself before he can get near it again - the walls, the ceiling, the gloss, all of it.

I got up this morning thinking, "Thank the powers that be, it's Friday and I finally have a whole weekend off...." Then as I was getting ready for work I realized it was actually only Thursday....
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....
