I think there are a lot more links to profiles in the Facebook thread, once you get past the discussion about what Facebook is. But, for brevity's sake, here's mine:

Please let me know who you are on the Watch if your FB name is different from your Watch name. I ignore lots of friend requests because I get a lot from friends of acquaintances of relatives of friends etc.

I rarely use it, but some of my family got to be really annoying cuz I wasn't on it...

So, doing the ones here, I got an "Idea!"...probably not the first one to get it, but for fun, I just started going down the "people you might know" list and sending requests to everyone, even people I was damn sure I didn't know.

So far, I have at least a dozen new "friends" I've never heard of.
[and I've probably annoyed a ton who are wondering "who the hell IS this guy?? Why is he making me click this button to deny him! What a waste of half a valuable half a second when I could be laughing at cat videos!]

I did.
As part of my continuing "idea"/experiment, I did some math:

IF the average person has 20 friends, AND all of them accepted my request in a day, THEN I requested all the added suggestions, and all of THEM accepted, then I repeated it...and if my math is correct...it would only take [roughly...] 6.7 days before I was friends with all 800,000,000 people on Facebook!!

Man, that's a lot of steaks and beers if they all come over for a cookout.

Good for you...

My husband has managed to avoid getting a FB account in spite of working with youth as his job for 3 years straight...
(we used my account as a proxy.)
So he didn't quite utterly avoid it, but hey.

Murrin- I like how you answer your own question.
(Just in case.)

I left facebook about a year ago. I found that I was spending too much time 'wandering' around the site. I think if I had a business reason, like promoting a book or selling a product I would go back but right now I found it unhealthy for me.
The loudest truth I ever heard was the softest sound.

I do have a business reason for being there, and I still think I spend unhealthy amounts of time on it...

I have a One-Name Study page with 33 members; just another way of getting people with a particular surname to contact me - and I can't have that without having my own page.

Oh, Facebook, I almost thought of tvtropes. I don't use it much - Facebook, not tvtropes. I do have an account, www.facebook.com/effaeldm.effaeldm I'm not principal in avoiding Facebook - or anything like that, I just don't spend much time and energy, better used elsewhere, as may be seen from my minimalistic wall)
