Wait a second...does that mean that the original books (of which I have 1, 2 and 3), do not just fit neatly into the spaces in between the others?
Are they splitting the others into multiple books? Are bits of them being rewritten? This is bullshit.
Anyway, I'm reading Melanie Rawn's Stronghold, book 1 of the Dragon Star trilogy, sequel to the Dragon Prince trilogy. Finaly took Baradakas' advice. Only problem is I still have to wait weeks at least to get 2 & 3 delivered. Maybe more. That sucks.

From the wikipedia article it sounds like the 20-book series is a major rewrite, with the final book expanded dramatically, two new books at the start, and everything else revised & split up into multiple volumes.

I spent all of Monday night finishing The Unblemished, and wrote up my review for the blog last night. It was a good book, but there were a few missteps in thr plot and use of characters.
Haven't decided on my next one. Either Seized or something else. Need to get moving.

This really sucks. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to make sure I only buy the old originals, otherwise my existing ones won't make sense. Luckily the only new ones I have are the two prequels, which don't really affect anything.I'm Murrin wrote:From the wikipedia article it sounds like the 20-book series is a major rewrite, with the final book expanded dramatically, two new books at the start, and everything else revised & split up into multiple volumes.

If you have trouble finding them send me a message. I've sold off a few of the books in the original series, but still have several lying aroundAvatar wrote:This really sucks. Thanks man. Luckily, it's always been a series I could sorta take or leave...it was only seeing prequels that piqued my interest. I've got the first 3 originals...will keep an eye out and see if I can find more.
Anyway, to get back on topic, I'm reading Titus Groan by Mervyn Peak.
Don't know what I was expecting, but this probably wasn't it.
It's maybe growing on me a little, and apparently Gormenghast is better, so I'll see how it goes.

Just finished The Black Prism by Brent Weeks. Quite good. I read The Way of the Shadows a couple of years back and enjoyed that too.
The Black Prism has a good magic concept that shapes the book. The magic is central and highly active so the book tends towards endless action. There's some good plots going on as well but by the end of the book it's as if the whole thing got too much for him and it descended into all-out action with the plot just getting dragged along. There is a nice line being drawn where you're not sure who the good guys are by the end and that might be enough to get me to read another one (or not

Well, I finished Titus Groan, so technically I should be on the next one now, but the first of my awaited orders arrived yesterday, and I couldn't face it.
So I'm reading Midnight Falcon by David Gemmel.
This delivery has brought me my missing Seven Suns books, my missing Warlord Chronicles book, Forge of Darkness, Ender's Shadow, (filling the gap in my Shadow books), and the last 3 David Gemmel books I needed to now have every single one.

Anywhos, I did eventually finish A Storm of Gourds, book 3 of the Game of Scones series. I'm almost done with the Hero of Ages by a Brandon Sanderson, after which we have Left Hand of Darkness by some one you've never heard of.

Just finishing Neverness, liked it lots. I have The Broken God here but it's hardcover, massive, and my wrists are aching from editing. I've ordered a secondhand lighter paperback version, but whilst waiting for it to arrive I think I shall finally read A Wizard of Earthsea by someone we've never heard of.

Sounds like you need to come hang out at the Watch's sister site, Ahira's Hangar. At least come join in the group read of Earthsea, The Archives of Roke, while you make your way through the series.

Finally finished RoTE... now I'm 138 pages in to FR, and I am really unhappy & bothered by the fact that I have know idea what's going on.

I did make an initial sign-up visit to the Hangar and you're right, the time is now ripe for a revisit, given my reading. I shall try and make a mapping and drop in soon.Menolly wrote:Shaun das Schaf wrote:Just finishing Neverness, liked it lots. Yeah, apparently She Who Cannot Be Named (because she is not popular enough to know about) won the Hugo and Nebula for The Left Hand of Darkness. Time to see if this work deserved it.
