Hollywood always knows how to ruin a great book by turning it into an awful movie. There are very few exceptions to this that come to mind: A Scanner Darkly...Silence of the Lambs...I can't think of any others right now but I sure there are more.
The Tank is gone and now so am I.

I always rated Bram Stoker's Dracula as being pretty close to the book.

But I can think of countless examples where they just destroyed the story.

As for Card, I like his books, if not his politics or religion. Ender was originally a short story btw. Which turned into multiple novels, all of which I enjoyed.

(By the way U, he was called Ender because either he or his sister couldn't pronounce his name (Andrew) when very young. (I can't remember which one it was.) Not because he was a 3rd.)

You should know by now how I hate to be disagreeable, Av, but in this case I must question your assertion

I'm too lazy to go and check this out, so we'll either have to wait until someone with more Ender lore than the two of us butts in, or until the inevitable reread comes around, before it can be settled. I'm too indolent to be insolent

Considering I've reread them all very recently, I'm fairly confident about my assertion. :D Lemme look around quick...

Well, the book just tells you she named him Ender because she found Andrew too hard to pronounce as a child. It sounds quite logical, Ender does sort of sound like a simplified version of Andrew. The book never mentioned anything about him being Ender because he's the last child...Link

I stand corrected. I was mixing up 'third' with 'Ender'.

Just as well I wasn't insolent. You'd have even more to be smug about
