well I have been moved to first shift against my will. even though I have seniority in the kitchen.

so I am looking at a couple different prisons close by. my original unit (Ramsey I) and one nearby (Ramsey III)

this sucks.

Sorry to hear it. Again, if you have an interest in moving to Colorado, I could check with my in-law to see if he could get you in anywhere at the prison in Canon City.

Which is first shift? Where the heck is your union????

So........did you ever know someone that just wants to complain and complain and complain? Eventually you realize this person does not want solutions, just want to dump on people. I work very hard not to be that kind of person but I guess we all have it in us. So my brother........sigh..... Both my brothers and I have alpha 1 anti trypsin deficiency. But in myself and one of my brothers it is not active. My other brother, David, it is more pronounced. My brother has led a very hard partying life. A LOT of drugs including freebasing and skin popping. He did construction for his entire life with out a mask, he smoked 3-4 packs a day and smoke a boat load of weed. All this plus the alpha one, he now has 10% capacity in his lungs. He now needs a lung transplant. The thing is my brother is not the sharpest tac in the box. He worked his entire life off the books, never paid ssi or taxes. He would flip houses for a living and we all know what happened to that market. So a few years ago it dawns on him (uh duh) he will have nothing to live on as he gets older. He decides to go to school to get a marketable skill. But the dumb ass with a compromized immune system goes to school to become an xray tech. I kept telling him get a skill where you can work from home, but nope, not him. He works with sick people. Needless to say now his body has about given up. But he needs to work 12 more quarters to get ssi disability and medicare. Ok so he knows he needs a transplant, right? You'd think he would be working to get his body ready for that day. Nope, not him, he is drunk every day, begging for money from family members, fat as a house, eats rich crappy food and complains and complains and complains. I got him in touch with a man that had a double transplant and now runs 20 miles a day to inspire him. Not my brother. I have given him a bunch of suggestions how to improve his situation, but he just whines and whines about how sick he is. Last two nights he has written me basically suicide notes and then says but don't tell anyone he wrote them. I don't deal well with this suicide bullshit. His note blamed my mother and father for everything. Never takes any responsibility. I feel manipulated and get really angry when people threaten suicide. I made calls to his wife and made sure he was ok but I am fed up. My mother offed herself and now this.

I truly believe some people enjoy wallowing in their misery. I think, consciously or unconsciously that want to bring everyone down with them.

Just sayin'.

Cags - thanks, but we have the house, the inlaws, etc...

Lorin - Texas is non union for the most. we have a union, they are pretty unhelping. part of the reason I never liked Bush jr was because as governor he made sure we at the prison stayed underpaid and overworked.

lorin, so sorry. I have a "problem" sibling as well, complains, makes poor choices about finances/health/life and then whines about it. Past mid-life, obese, hoarder/clutterer, always an excuse about why she can't get a job, or clean up her house, or get her life together, and somehow it's all still everyone else's fault. But she doesn't have a life-threatening situation; that's a whole 'nother level... :(

Anyway, it's a lovely, gorgeous day in NY State. I walked several miles yesterday just to get out of the house and need to give my joints a rest today. Wish I had a bike!!

 Hi, guys. I feel like a prodigal child myself. I always seem to get stuck on Facebook these days. :(

Since this is my first post in this thread in a while, I won't subject you to all the gory details of my latest round with my brother over my mother's house. Suffice it to say that I've finally written the words, "legal action," where he can't miss them, and suddenly he's being a lot nicer to me. He also seems to be moving toward getting the work on the house done, so we can get it on the market.

Other than that, there's nothing new. I still hate my job, and Batty's still unemployed. :( I'm taking tomorrow off to take her to the doctor so she can get a TB test, so she can apply to do substitute teaching in her former school district. Hopefully they're desperate enough that they'll take someone who has had no paid work in the last two years....

Good luck to Batty.

Menolly (who has not held a job in about a decade) is now set to be a substitute IA/Para-ed and secretary for both the school district where Dam-sel has worked the last twelve years and the adjacent school district.

This is the result of a year of repeated application, patiently honing the submissions to push the right buttons...and at the same time progressively building her self-confidence so she would believe in herself and manifest that confidence in her interviews.

Lorin, I can't begin to think how I would cope in your situation.

I seem to be blessed with a lovely sister. We don't see much of each other, our families get in the way, but we keep in touch on FB. Extraordinary really, we only live an hour away from each other. But she's younger and still working - away - so she is only home weekends and her weekends are full of grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Good luck to the job hunters - Menolly, Batty. It's rough when there is just no work available. My son is gradually building up his own business, and it is slowly coming on.

I should mention that I am also blessed with a wonderful, lovely sister who has survived widowhood and a failed 2nd marriage with grace and strength and who has her life together better than just about anyone I know-- and is just a fun and lovely person to be around, to boot. :D

It's been a while since I've checked in.

Last week I got some good news. I'm cancer free.

The eve of Christmas Eve, 2010, I got back a positive result from a biopsy done ten days before. Merry Christmas! Not wholly unexpected that I would get this particular form of cancer, my father has it, and his father died from the spread of it. It was annoying in that I was so young; at 48 I was the second youngest to test positive for it among those that my doctor performed a biopsy. In my favor though was it was caught very early and it tends to be slow growing.

The next year and a half was spent in dealing with my HMO and finding a surgeon. When I did he asked me to lose some weight before he performed the surgery. I lost most of what he wanted. My surgeon is the most experienced in the state for this procedure and things went very well after it was performed last August. I have been ahead of the average in recovery. No chemo, since the cancer was so localized. I was lucky. After my one year check up last week, my psa came back as negligible. I am done with direct treatment.

In the aftermath, the University of Chicago apparently believes that I am now an alumnus. They sent me a brochure this week for various upcoming alumni events. I am merely an alumnus of the operating table at their hospital.

I'm beginning to have strange thoughts. All my life I've never had much interest in motorcycles. Now, I'm thinking of taking a motorcycle safety class and daydreaming about BMW motorcycles. If this carries on, maybe I'll travel to Elohimfest next year on one...

It's nice that you mention the good with the bad. I have 2 brothers but have no relationship with either, except to hear David whine. The other brother is 12 years younger than me. He was raised in a more stable environment then myself or David. I have not spoken to him in more than 2 years. I am not mad, we just have nothing to say to each other. He is VERY arrogant and snide. He married very well (his biggest accomplishment) and lives a pampered life. I have to say one thing about my two brothers, they sure can pick good wives. I don't really feel like I have an immediate family, never did. But I have very nice cousins and am actually close to my cousins children. You have to take the good with the bad, I guess.

Helldog isn't feeling well and I am taking her to a vet on Wednesday. I really think blowing her coat every year is stressful to the body.

Just back from a lovely weekend in Hampshire. Bro in law was 75 on Sunday (pre war baby, hubby was post war so 10 years younger). Also sister in law and hubby, nephew and wife and 4 young children (hadn't seen the two youngest before except on FB). Had a good rest - didn't see a computer for the whole weekend! :D

Very Good news Damelon!

I have had a very pesty year. In spring carpenter ant invaded my house. I actually got BIT by one. Then really vicious mosquitos. Two weeks ago the gardner took down 2 hornets nests attached to my house and now........a mouse. A MOUSE!!!!! They are crapping machines. I took the whole kitchen apart and cleaned it. The kitchen is fairly new and I cannot figure out where they are getting in. There is one spot where the backboard is away from the wall 1/4" so I am guessing there. I stuffed it with peppermint leaves . They came back last night, the leaves were not disturbed. I have to wash all the surfaces again. Im going to go out and buy steel wool but I don't know where to stuff it (except up Mr. Mouse's butt). Guess I'll buy a trap. yuck. I heard bleach is a good deterrent. My clients used to pour it full strength all over the place.
