You say "resolve". Well... If every time someone "strengthened my weak knees," I got a dollar instead of getting that encouragement, I would have thousands more dollars and be so much the poorer..lorin wrote:I think it's wonderful when you can find a common ground with a parent. I admire your efforts. It can't be easy and really speaks to your resolve.
I think the pain of not even trying to talk to my dad about this stuff - and knowing I wasn't - was worse and scarier. Otoh, I've also felt obligation or responsibility for loads of things that are not the main thing and that are not my job anyway.
I've just seen you still trying to understand them. I wouldn't have guessed you'd so totally given up.lorin wrote:I have never ever found anything to all to talk to my parents about but truthfully I gave up trying.
Walking in to a verbal barrage is not most people's idea of a pleasant way to spend ones time!
And thank you for your words of encouragement!
Ick! Anxiety attack... I can't blame you... hands are like, really precious and valuable..sgt.null wrote:Surgery went well. Though I had an anxiety attack pre surgery. In splints and gauze that needs changing tomorrow. Lots of pain, lots of pain medication. Julie has stayed home to care for me.
Glad you've got Julie there... this sounds hard.

SoulBiter- that sounds awesome!
It's a scary day when I am doing most of the posting around here. And since no one wants to come out and play, I have been dipping my toe in the Tank. Admittedly the water can go from icy to scalding in seconds but beggars can be chosers. Anyway, I thought they could use a dose of estrogen, though I don't have much to spare these days.

Carefull Lorin - the Tank is a dangerous place; they take their eostrogen in shots!lorin wrote:It's a scary day when I am doing most of the posting around here. Where is everyone?

The catholic church is the largest pro-pedophillia group in the world, and every member of it is guilty of supporting the rape of children, the ensuing protection of the rapists, and the continuing suffering of the victims.
They have actually been quite nice to me. Maybe because I am becoming a fledgeling libertarian.Avatar wrote:Keep it up Lorin.

On the home front............ I woke up to an additional 1 1/2 feet of snow on top of the existing one foot and it's still coming down. Helldog doesn't know what to do with herself. No place to pee but lots of places to play. Nobody believes me when I say my town gets more snow than other places in the area. But it's true. I think it's lake affects (effects?) from Long Island sound.

With all due respect I really think it's time to let that go. I have put up many many posts that have gotten no response. It happens. Life happens. People get busy. People are often not interested in what I have to say. Whatever the reason, I know it is not a reflection on me.Frostheart wrote: I don't particularly enjoy first spending several hours crafting a complex post and then watching days and weeks crawl past often without a single answer. :/

When I read this last night I saw 'librarian' and thought, 'that's cool, lorin's spending a lot of time in libraries!'.lorin wrote:They have actually been quite nice to me. Maybe because I am becoming a fledgeling libertarian.Avatar wrote:Keep it up Lorin.

Now I see that it's 'libertarian'

Don't do it, lorin! Come back to the li(ght)brary, come back to the light!
But there's a serious point in this; is it just me or has the 'Tank gone very one note?

I think everyone is doing their own thing these days. And really, maybe this site has its own natural life expectancy. I know it seems many are coming to the Fest. This may be the last one. *shrug* Maybe. But there was a question as to where people are and so forth, and this is one of my reasons to remain mostly quiet these days. I find "talking to myself" extremely irritating, and it's not something I can change.lorin wrote:With all due respect I really think it's time to let that go. I used to delete a lot of my posts, especially if no one replied. Figured it meant no one was interested.
But I don't reply to every post that I enjoy reading - sometimes I don't feel that I have anything meaningful to contribute.
Yes, things are quieter around here these days (I blame Facebook - eeevvvviiillll), but that doesn't mean no one is listening.

Agreed on Facebook. I see ali there a lot more than here. Pity...especially here in GenDisc, where she was the most active of the three mods.
Frosty...may I be forthright? You have a huge following here. We love your work; both the visual art and the words. If you were sharing music as well, that would probably blow us away too.
Does that mean that we will always respond? Sadly, no. I know you want feedback, but can you understand that many of us lack the discernment to be able to articulate any real critique, and may be too insecure to be willing to offer comments that would be perceived as shallow?
You've also noted that thanks are not forthcoming when you extend yourself for us. I can't contradict that...but if there were effusive appreciation everytime you posted some brilliant image, there would be threads devoted to nothing but singing your praises. I think I see you well enough to know that isn't what you really want. You want interaction...and there are a lot of people who appreciate what you do, but are too intimidated by the talent behind it to say much about it. Try to understand that this is not an offense to you, but a tribute of sorts...albeit an dysfunctional one.
Now for the downside...you really don't do yourself any service by getting publicly aggravated about all of this. Let it go. You have powerful magic...and (as a Finn) the cold never bothered you anyway.

Boy, have I had a busy few weeks. What with one thing and another I've hardly had time to turn round. Suddenly I have a "free " weekend, but I have a newsletter to write and I'm off to London on Wednesday for the big Family History do at Olympia - I have preparations to make.
I usually get to look at this forum when I've finished whatever I'm doing around 10.30 at night but the last few nights it hasn't worked (between 9 and 10 in the evening I can't seem to get to anything on the forum - the little circle just keeps turning). So, I thought I'd try this morning.
I need to find time to read the dissections of TLD (they are long - that's not a criticism - and I need to read more than once to digest). Also, just, hello!

I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

The recent outage got me to thinking: when the watch ends, will it be with a bang or a whimper?

The catholic church is the largest pro-pedophillia group in the world, and every member of it is guilty of supporting the rape of children, the ensuing protection of the rapists, and the continuing suffering of the victims.
